Last Wednesday, I attended the Yankees vs White Sox game on a mission to discover how sports consumerism dictates what jerseys fans buy and wear
During my field research, I recorded over 400 jerseys and found some quite intriguing patterns

Best part of Grae Kessinger (@Swagulater15) switching to #11, it was the same number his grandfather Don (@kessing) wore sixteen years in #MLB. [baseball-almanac.com/players…] Shoutout to @NumbersMLB for also tracking changes, we missed this one. #BaseballAlmanac ❤️⚾️

The 1929 Yanks are credited with being first with numbers on their backs. But the first @MLB club to don digits were the Cleveland Indians of 1916 (left sleeve). In 1917 they tried the right sleeve. But the Cuban Stars wore numbers in 1909 and the Stars of Cuba in 1912.

🕯️Skip is wearing the number 45 to honor his father, Wayne, who passed away last week at the age of 72 from congestive heart failure.
Wayne wore the number 45 when he played football in high school.
Skip usually can be seen wearing a hoodie or pullover in the dugout, but has said he will specifically wear the uniform with the number 45 for the first game of every series to honor his father.
The funeral was today in California.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Wayne's memory to Ronald McDonalds House Charities- Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). (give.rmhc.org/fundraiser/536…)
Sending nothing but love and support to Skip and his family as they mourn.

There have certainly been issues with the rollout of #Nike's new 2024 baseball uniforms -- see through pants, tiny player names, no more embroidered patches... so I reached out to #MLB to find out why these changes were made.
Here's what I learned: news.sportslogos.net/2024/02…

The Angels had not issued No 15 since Tim Salmon wore it. I checked with him today and he said via text that the Angels did ask him how he felt about Randal Grichuk wearing the number.
Salmon approved (although he also didn’t feel his approval was necessary)
