#CombatingHateCrimes #OSCEBiH #HateMonitor

Strategies alone do not protect victims. Their implementation makes the difference. BiH’s Strategy for Combating Human Trafficking 2024–2027 outlines measures to prevent trafficking, protect victims, prosecute perpetrators and strengthen co-operation among institutions. The priority is to put these measures into practice and ensure that victims receive the protection and support they need. The OSCE Mission to BiH supports domestic authorities in improving anti-trafficking policies and the justice system’s response. Co-operation across all levels of government is essential to identify and protect victims promptly and hold traffickers accountable. Victim protection and accountability must be outcomes, not just objectives. Learn more: bih.osce.org/mission-to-bosn… #EndHumanTrafficking #EUAntiTraffickingDay

A dream job or a dangerous trap? Fake job advertisements and deceptive online offers can be traps for human trafficking, including forced involvement in cyber scams. In September, the OSCE brought together 25 young people from across BiH, helping them learn to spot fake job offers, verify information and warn their peers about the risks. Before accepting an offer: verify the employer independently; beware of unusually high pay or pressure to travel immediately; check where you will work and stay; share your travel plans with someone you trust. Stay informed. Recognise the red flags. Stay safe. Learn more: bih.osce.org/news/mission-bo… #EndHumanTrafficking #EUAntiTraffickingDay

What if the person committing a crime is actually a victim? Traffickers force victims to commit crimes, from theft and fraud to involvement in cyber scams. According to data reported across the OSCE region, the share of identified trafficking victims subjected to forced criminality rose from just over 1% in 2018 to 17% in 2024. People forced to commit crimes must be recognised as victims, protected and not punished for acts they were compelled to commit. #EndHumanTrafficking #EUAntiTraffickingDay

The survey recorded 102 potential gender-based incidents - categorized within the broader framework of gender-based hate crimes - that respondents perceived as being motivated exclusively by prejudice against their gender. Of the 62 interpersonal incidents covered by follow-up questions regarding reporting, only 10 were reported to the police. This is one of the concerning findings from the “2023 Hate Crime Underreporting Survey for Bosnia and Herzegovina”, conducted in 2023. The survey also revealed that, when including verbal abuse occurring both in person and online, one in ten female respondents had experienced some form of potential criminal victimization in the preceding 12 months, which they believed occurred, either partially or entirely, because they were women. In the majority of cases, the perpetrators were individuals previously unknown to the victims, and for most victims, the emotional impact of the incidents was described as "considerable" or "very significant." 📄 A fact sheet developed with the support of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents key findings and recommendations for improving victim support and strengthening the criminal justice response. 🔗 Read the fact sheet: bit.ly/4dMX9X2 #OSCEBiH #HateCrime #GenderEquality
