MAJOR WON’T BE PUT DOWN. A FEDERAL COURT JUST SAVED HIS LIFE. A Travis County court ordered Major euthanized. On October 26, a federal court in Austin stopped it for good. Under the ADA, the Court granted a permanent injunction, finding Shane Lilly is a qualified individual with a disability and losing Major would be irreparable harm. The City of Austin is now permanently barred from euthanizing him. Within 30 days he goes to a licensed rescue outside Austin and Travis County, then at least 30 days of decompression with veterinary behaviorist Dr. Kenneth Martin to rehabilitate and retrain him. Strict conditions: secure enclosure, muzzle and leash, $100,000 liability coverage, court reports every 30 days for a year. Per @edayforcongress, the court used her DeFURment program recommendations.
