New paint. Same chaos.
DIY that shouldn't work. News that shouldn't be real.
If it makes you say oh wait, it belongs here.
Japan just launched a probe to grab a piece of Mars' moon Phobos and bring it home.
In the 1960s some scientists thought Phobos might be a hollow spacecraft. It's not, but it isn't solid rock either.
Rover lands 2029. Samples back by 2031.

Stanford just sent wireless data using static.
No radio signal. The transmitter flips its antenna between open and short circuit, and the receiver reads the noise as "hotter" or "colder." 1s and 0s.
Up to 1,000x less energy than normal radio.

Super Mario Galaxy. On a Game Boy Advance. Oh wait, it's actually playable.
One dev squeezed the Wii game onto 2001 hardware, star pointer and all, and put the code on GitHub. You bring your own copy of the game.

A fridge that runs on fire and road salt. Oh wait, it actually gets cold.
Boil salty water, drop the pressure, and water boils cold enough to chill. First test hit about 5°C on a 16°C day.

Your smart light switch can now run DOOM. Kind of.
Someone jammed a DOOM-looking tech demo onto a Sonoff Basic R2. Play it from any browser on your network. It still works as a switch.

One button. One game: the Chrome offline dinosaur.
The sneaky part: swipe this handheld past your phone and a hidden NFC tag flips it to airplane mode.
Anti-doomscrolling in a Game Boy costume.

Someone counted the plastic bottles it takes to make 1 kg of 3D printer filament.
Thirteen 5-liter bottles. A 10-liter. Two 8-liters. One lonely 1.5.
Then they still have to print with it. On a DIY printer made from scrap.

DARPA asked for an aircraft that can lift 4x its own weight.
The weird designs showed up. A totally normal electric helicopter won anyway: 112 lb of payload, 3.84x its dry weight.
First gas engine? Third place.

A door sensor that runs on garlic peel. Open the door, the peel rubs against polyethylene, and out comes about 210 volts AC. No battery to die overnight. Vampires now have bigger problems than the alarm.

Someone built a 27-foot R/C airship that runs on fire.
Two barbecue-size propane tanks heat the air, an 18" prop pushes it, and a winch servo from an R/C sailboat steers the rudder.
It's a hot air balloon that takes directions.

Oh wait, an LED can listen too.
Luca Soltoggio got two ESP32s swapping encryption keys over light, with one single LED on each side acting as both transmitter and receiver.
Turns out LEDs moonlight as photodiodes.

Google Japan built a keyboard where the keys ride a conveyor belt.
Made a typo? Wait for backspace to come back around.
The STLs and build guide are on GitHub, so yes, you can build one.

A playing card sticks to the ceiling. Just a vibe motor. No glue.
Vibration pushes air out of the gap. Pressure drops. Physics does sticky.

The whole computer is Vim now.
ESP-Vim boots an ESP32 straight into the editor. Files, git, MicroPython. Bluetooth keyboard and good luck getting out.

DIY jet turbine. Outer casing: a gas cylinder and a kid's steel bottle that happened to fit.
AlfMart CNC Garage spent months on tolerances. Starter clutch already needed a redo.
Ignition waits on a custom balancing rig. Prefer roaring over shrapnel.

Mechanical TV, but make it 3D and playable.
AncientJames spins a drum full of holes over LED matrices. Light-field view. ~100x48 per eye.
Still runs DOOM.

Home automation, literally in a nutshell.
ESP32-C3 stuffed in a walnut fires IR at dumb TVs. Magnets keep the snack closed.

A 40-year-old Commodore 128 is plotting live ships right now.
Assembly grabs AIS over serial. BASIC 8 draws the map. Same vibe as that NES that tracked planes.

Someone replaced the DJ laptop with a $50 ESP32.
ESP32-P4 + 4.3" touchscreen talks to a Pioneer controller, reads the USB stick (MP3/WAV/FLAC), and draws the waveforms. No Windows Update mid-set.

This cube jumps.
Mid-air it flips.
Then it lands on one EDGE and just… stays there.
ESP32 + reaction wheel. Your dice are soft.
