BIAFRA MORNING INTELLIGENCE BRIEFING AND ALAIGBO
South-East Political Alignment, INEC Irregularities and Democratic Consent in Focus
Sunday, 1 November 2026
Four South-East administrations have now publicly backed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Governors of Imo, Ebonyi and Enugu spoke at an APC rally in Enugu on Saturday, while Anambra was represented by Deputy Governor Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
This is politically significant.
But it is important to preserve one distinction:
The political position of a governor is not automatically the political position of every citizen.
An election endorsement is also not a referendum on Biafran self-determination.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and the Christian Association of Nigeria have rejected the inclusion of senior clerics in an APC campaign structure, saying the names were used without authorisation.
That raises a basic democratic principle:
Institutions should not be represented as endorsing political parties without consent.
INEC also remains under scrutiny after acknowledging irregular entries in the preliminary voters’ register, including records containing photographs suspected of being artificially generated.
The Commission says corrections are continuing before certification on 15 December.
What remains unanswered is the scale of the problem and whether any irregularities were deliberately coordinated.
On human rights, the Minna custodial-deaths investigation continues to demand accountability.
Detailed committee reporting identifies 33 deaths, including 14 children, while Reuters and Associated Press have reported 37.
That discrepancy still needs to be reconciled through authenticated records.
For Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, his appeal remains the central legal process challenging his November 2025 conviction.
No new substantive Court of Appeal judgment or authenticated hearing date is established in today’s material.
His family’s continuing diplomatic engagement with British officials remains important, but diplomatic access must not be confused with a confirmed British intervention or legal outcome.
Nigeria-focused payments company OPay has also withdrawn a planned $304 million US stock-market listing following disclosure of a foreign regulatory inquiry.
The inquiry is not proof of wrongdoing.
And on public health, two suspected Ebola cases in Adamawa have tested negative.
Across AlaIgbo, today’s message is straightforward:
Political endorsement is not collective consent.
Institutional representation requires authorisation.
Elections require trustworthy records.
Detention requires accountability.
And:
AlaIgbo’s future must ultimately be shaped through freely expressed consent, verifiable development and institutions worthy of public trust.

A garment is never only what we see in the mirror. It carries human labour, natural resources, cultural meaning and environmental consequences.
From Aba’s workshops to global fashion supply chains, conscious fashion invites us to examine what we produce, purchase, repair and discard.
Local skill deserves investment, workers deserve dignity, and environmental responsibility must extend beyond individual consumers to the institutions shaping production and waste.
Beauty need not disappear. Our awareness must simply grow.

Leaving hospital does not mean that healing has ended.
After major surgery, the visible emergency may be over, but the body continues its quieter work of recovery.
Families must organise care, not merely promise it. Employers must respect limitations. Faith communities must offer compassion without spiritual judgement. Above all, recovering people must retain their dignity, privacy and autonomy.
Discharge is a clinical transition, not a demand to become useful again.
How do we care for people when their suffering is no longer visible?

LIYATU SAMUEL DAWA: FOURTEEN YEARS IN PRISON, RELIGIOUS FREEDOM AND THE CONSCIENCE OF A NATION
My conscious ladies and gentlemen, there is a troubling case unfolding in the Kakistocratic Republic of Nigeria that deserves the attention of every citizen who believes in freedom of conscience, human dignity and justice.
Liyatu Samuel Dawa, a Christian mother from Gwoza in Borno State, has reportedly been sentenced to fourteen years' imprisonment following a case involving a Muslim woman who converted to Christianity. According to published reports, the woman testified that her decision to embrace Christianity was voluntary and that she had not been coerced.
Yet Liyatu is in prison, while questions remain about the precise legal basis of her conviction. One of the provisions reportedly invoked concerns the deprivation of a child's lawful parental custody, raising serious questions about its relationship to the reported circumstances of an adult woman's religious conversion.
I believe the complete judgment, the evidence and the charges must be subjected to proper legal scrutiny, because no person should lose fourteen years of their freedom without a conviction firmly grounded in law and supported by evidence.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have recently witnessed a disturbing video of uniformed boys chanting about obtaining AK-47 rifles and attacking Christians attending Sunday worship in Enugu and Jos. The alleged leader has since been arrested by the Zamfara State Police Command, while the organisation associated with the uniforms has condemned the threats and denied authorising the activity.
These are separate cases, but they bring us to an important question about the Nigerian state's responsibility to protect religious freedom and administer justice consistently.
***** How can we claim to uphold freedom of religion if an adult's voluntary change of faith becomes the subject of criminal controversy, while children are being exposed to rhetoric that encourages violence against people because of their religious beliefs? *****
Section 38 of the Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of thought, conscience and religion, including the freedom to change one's beliefs and manifest them through teaching and practice.
That constitutional protection must apply to Christians, Muslims, traditional worshippers and those who profess no religion. Nobody should be compelled to practise a religion, prevented from leaving one or threatened for choosing another.
As a Transformative Life Coach and Advocate for Human Consciousness, I am equally concerned about what happens to families when justice is called into question. Behind Liyatu's fourteen-year sentence are loved ones who must bear the emotional, social and economic consequences of her imprisonment.
I call for transparent judicial scrutiny of Liyatu Samuel Dawa's conviction, access to effective legal remedies, protection for her family against any credible threats, and a thorough investigation and lawful prosecution, where supported by evidence, of those responsible for inciting religious violence.
Religious conviction should never become an excuse for intimidation, discrimination or the denial of another person's humanity.
Freedom of conscience must be protected equally for every citizen.
