“It feels really empty without him,” says 16-year-old Corey Diawara, whose father was deported in July. His father had lived in the U.S. for 25 years and had no criminal record. Moussa Diawara says he was deported without being able to speak to his lawyer or a judge. He was eventually sent to Mali, a country a U.S. immigration judge ruled he could not be deported to. In a statement, the Department of Homeland Security told 60 Minutes that Ghana had provided the U.S. with “diplomatic assurances for his safety.” DHS also questioned the credibility of Diawara’s arguments for fearing persecution in Mali. cbsn.ws/4etdVdW

I love this for @billmaher He went on his show saying Trump was reasonable and listened to him and was wonderful. That he loved the ballroom. And he gets this. I love it.
Lots to unpack here but Trump says Bill Maher is an unfunny loser pothead/drunk and the recent dinner was a waste of time. TRUMP: Let's talk about this COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER, Bill Maher. When I became President, I agreed to meet, after the first one, and the last one, but never agreed to do his show, which he wants me to do, DESPARATELY I believe he lied to me when I asked him, with all the applause and laughter he gets after almost everything he says, about thing that aren't funny or even any good, what Laughter Machine does he use? People can't think he's funny. Bill was very nervous. He asked for a drink. He was very insecure, and he had a seriously bruised eye and nose area, as though somebody had just beaten him up — But it wasn't me! No sooner had we had that first dinner at the White House, which is a very seductive and beautiful place, especially now that I have fully renovated and fixed it in the style which it deserves, Bill wanted to come back. Also, I wanted to tell Bill that he's a major POTHEAD. He's got to stop, it's very bad for his health. He looked like hell this time. Bill was drunk and had alcohol in his hand as he walked through the White House. Stephen A. Smith and Kid Rock came along with him. I learned nothing, and felt it was a waste of time. After the first dinner, Bill Maher was friendly, I guess, everyone walked away pleased. After the second dinner, Bill's "show" was far worse than the first. He went crazy! He's gutless, because he enjoyed every minute. Also, I am not a building a swimming pool in the White House Briefing Room, and never had any intention of doing so.

This was so heartbreaking to read 💔
Irene Gakwa was 32 years old who was born and raised just outside Nairobi, Kenya, in a close and supportive household. She was the youngest of three children and the only daughter of her parents, Francis Kambo and his wife. Her family described her as exceptionally shy, introverted, patient, and gentle. Her father recalls that she spent so much time inside her room that they occasionally had to remind her to go outside for sunlight. From a young age, Irene showed a deep sense of empathy. If she noticed a local family struggling to feed their children, she would ask her father to step in and help them. In May 2019, Irene emigrated from Kenya to the United States. Her primary goal was to launch a career in medicine by becoming a nurse. Because she was introverted, her parents initially worried about how she would adapt to a distant country. They ultimately supported the move because her two older brothers, Chris Munga and Kennedy Wainaina, were already living in Meridian, Idaho (near Boise). Irene moved in with her brother Chris and his wife, Gyoice Abatey. She attended classes at the College of Western Idaho and did well academically. Her family noted that it was wonderful to see her slowly step out of her shell, let loose, and form a network of local friends. Irene was highly focused on her goal of becoming a nurse. She spent much of her week attending classes at the College of Western Idaho and studying at home. True to her introverted nature, she preferred staying indoors, loved cooking traditional Kenyan meals, drinking hot tea, and watching movies rather than going out to clubs or large social gatherings. Irene maintained an incredibly close relationship with her parents, calling them via WhatsApp almost every single day to chat, joke, and share updates from the U.S.. She spent nearly every weekend hanging out with her brothers and their families until she met Nathan Hightman online in the summer of 2019, after which she gradually became more isolated from her family members. Irene lifestyle changed drastically in July 2021 when she secretly moved with Hightman to Gillette, Wyoming. She did not tell her brothers about the move beforehand, which was completely out of character for her. Nathan Hightman was a tech-savvy homebody, born in California and graduated from Las Plumas High School. When he was in his early 20s, his mother was murdered at her home by her estranged ex-husband. An estranged stepsister later described him during his childhood as an intelligent, quiet boy who spent nearly all of his time tethered to his computer. His resume claimed he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina in 2006. However, investigative journalists discovered that none of the UNC campuses had records of his graduation or enrollment. His early career consisted of customer service roles for Xerox and a stint at T-Mobile, and also claimed to have co-owned a small computer design business called Advance Systems. After moving from Idaho to Gillette, Wyoming, bought a modest three-bedroom house on Pathfinder Circle and worked from home doing remote tech support for DirecTV. A former coworker who briefly dated Hightman described him as an introverted man who lived in a "rich fantasy life". While dating Irene, he actively posted classified ads on Reddit seeking other girlfriends. Hightman was always distant, cold, and highly controlling. He orchestrated the couple's sudden move from Idaho to a harsh, cold climate in Wyoming, where Irene knew no one. In Wyoming, Irene became physically isolated from her family support system. She no longer had her brothers nearby. Her lifestyle grew increasingly restricted. Investigators later revealed that Hightman controlled her digital access, eventually deleting her social media accounts and blocking her ability to communicate freely with the outside world.

my racist white mother and fam put me up for adoption because my dad was afrolatino and they wouldn’t help her with me because I wasn’t all white. She never told my dad about me or he would have raised me. Luckily I reconnected at 20 and got to know my family but adoption sucks

It’s not just “I don’t see color” my white adoptive family used to tell me I was a monkey they adopted at a research center and had my tail removed. It’s outright cruelty and racism in these homes and a lot of abuse

He was their manager all those years and didn’t save ANY money?! That’s on him.
Michael Jackson left one of the biggest fortunes in music. His father, the man who built the Jackson 5, got $0. Michael’s 2002 will left everything to his mother, his three children and charity. His father wasn’t even mentioned. Joe Jackson was the man who had pushed his sons from Gary, Indiana to Motown. He managed the Jackson 5. He was there before anyone knew Michael’s name. Five months after Michael died, Joe went to court. His lawyers asked the estate for a monthly allowance. His expenses, they said, exceeded $15,000 a month. His only other income was $1,700 a month in Social Security. At the same time, the court had approved more than $26,000 a month for Katherine and $60,000 a month for the children. In 2010, Joe withdrew the request. A year later, he sat down on camera and said what he really thought. “All that money that they’ve taken from the Jackson family, I wish it would go retroactive. Make them give it all back.” And then, with a laugh: “Everybody got paid but us.” Was Joe Jackson a father who was robbed, or a father who got exactly what Michael wanted him to get? Follow me for more stories of famous names who lost everything to the people closest to them.

White folks, in particular, don't see Anti-Blackness and its consequences as violent because they benefit from the consequences of Anti-Blackness. If they admit that Anti-Blackness is violent, they have to then admit their collaboration in the violence.
The real core issue of this is that people don’t see racism or anti-blackness as violence, they think it is confined to words and maybe a little bit of behavior, but not systemic, institutional, environmental interpersonal physical, emotional, psychological or sexual violence.

She’s absolutely correct, and I hope the East African girlies who love to get on their soapboxes turn their attention to educating and calling out the anti-Blackness in their own communities. It starts at home!

Ugh, Jeff Bezos is the devil. Amazon bought my pharmacy. They're already saying some of my prescriptions and OTC meds are unavailable to order through them. I'm tired of them creating a damn near monopoly that performs worse than the smaller businesses they've taken over.

White Supremacy is All-American. So much so that the most-restrictive Slave Codes in the U.S. weren't in the South, but in New York itself.
That’s why I am intrigued by how people talk about antiblackness in the north vs the south. Let people tell it, this only happened south of the Mason-Dixon.

This makes me laugh at how many times Bill Maher defended his meetings with Trump telling us that we’re the problem. What a humiliation for someone who spent so much time trying to get close to power
President Trump posted a more than 1300-word rant against Bill Maher, in which he tucks in that he is “not building a swimming pool in the White House briefing room,” but is still considering moving the press out.

It’s reality and as a Black adoptee, I’ve experienced, my siblings have experienced it, my white patents have first hand experience navigating it, and more and more research is coming out exposing the reality of how systemic racism impacts the entire adoption industry
