From Land's End to John O'Groats 💙 Recently, Oldham Active member George and his dad Allan walked the entire length of Great Britain! Starting from Land's End in Cornwall, they walked all the way to John O'Groats in the Scottish Highlands. The journey took them 85 days, covering 1267 miles at an average of 15 miles a day! The challenge included wild camping for most of the trip, with some interesting spots, including sleeping on train station platforms in Wales and camping in someone's back garden. The route took them through some beautiful places, from the South West Coastal Path with lovely sea views to the West Highland Way in Scotland. The father-and-son duo raised over £7,000 for Samaritans in the process. We think this is absolutely brilliant, and we're so grateful they shared this fantastic story with our team. Great work, both of you!

Meet Dewmi & Sayuni! Dewmi and Sayuni recently completed our Aquatic Helpers training course and shared their thoughts on the experience. Dewmi told us: “Firstly, I’m so glad to have been handed this opportunity. I’ve learnt so much over these 12 weeks while enjoying this experience greatly. What I enjoyed the most was being able to interact with the children I was grouped with. I loved being there to support them and watch them improve in each lesson. This experience has also helped me gain such valuable skills; it has helped me develop stronger communication, patience and empathy through supporting swimming in a variety of age and ability. I’ve also developed a stronger sense of responsibility and the skill of using initiative when needed. All these skills I’ve learnt, were demonstrated to me by my instructor Vicky. She showed me the importance of recognising each child’s individual abilities and adjusting the task to meet their needs. She always maintained a positive and fun learning environment. I truly appreciate all the guidance and support she gave me non-stop throughout this whole journey.” Sayuni shared with us: “I’m so deeply appreciative that I gained a new experience from the Aquatic Helper Course. What I most enjoyed about this was the bond I was able to create with the children and also understanding what they needed as individuals to improve as swimmers. I have also learnt many life skills that I’m so grateful for, from my mentor Sarah. For example, how I need to adapt the lesson to the suitability of the child and their needs, and how it’s always important to be patient but firm to ensure that I am considerate of the child while also creating an environment where they thrive and improve as swimmers. I am so thankful for this opportunity; everything I have learnt in this short time will stick with me forever.” If you would like to learn more about our Aquatic Helper course, visit the link below. oldhamactive.co.uk/careers/t…

Successful SEND Swimming Teacher Training Course 🏊‍♂️ We were delighted by the fantastic turnout for our recent SEND training course for swimming teachers! The session provided valuable guidance and practical skills to help our teachers better support children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within our swimming lesson programme. It was encouraging to see the team's enthusiasm and engagement, all committed to creating a more inclusive and positive experience for every swimmer. The feedback from attendees was extremely positive, with teachers highlighting how useful the training was in increasing their confidence, knowledge, and understanding of how to adapt lessons to meet individual needs. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day such a success. By investing in training and development, we're continuing to ensure our lessons are accessible and enjoyable for all community members.
