I thank Chinese leader Xi Jinping for his congratulations to Ukraine on our most important national holiday. Independence is an unconditional value for Ukrainians, as it is for all other sovereign nations. We appreciate that over these 35 years, we have built relations with China based on mutual respect and full recognition of the values of our peoples. We count on further cooperation and on China playing a strong diplomatic role in bringing Russia’s war against our country to an end. Peace can be our shared achievement.

It was particularly important to me to have an in-depth conversation with the Ukrainian Ambassador to #China Oleksandr Nechytailo @OlexanderN in #Beijing.
Our discussion was marked by openness, mutual respect and a shared awareness of the dramatic situation in #Ukraine. The focus was on #Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, which violates international law, as well as the immeasurable suffering of the civilian population.
Especially in times of global tension, international dialogue, strategic information exchange and close cooperation between #diplomacy, politics and think tanks are needed to find paths to #peace, stability and #security.
I would like to extend my special thanks to Estonian Ambassador Hannes Hanso @MFAestonia, who made this important meeting possible and also hosted a high-profile reception for my delegation. Such diplomatic encounters build trust, strengthen international dialogue, and promote common solutions in challenging times.

Putin wanted to show “strength” but only confirmed his weakness.
Overnight, Russia carried out one of the largest terrorist attacks on Kyiv with around 600 drones, many dozens of ballistic, air-ballistic, and cruise missiles, and a dummy IRBM.
Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kropyvnytskyi, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Zhytomyr regions were also under attack.
As of now, at least two civilian people have been reported killed and many dozens injured. These numbers may grow. Many residential buildings have been damaged.
Unable to achieve any results on the battlefield, Putin turns to terror against civilians.
This strike was probably meant to demonstrate “strength” to the domestic audience, but instead it only confirms Putin’s weakness. Even Russians see that he is a loser.
His “special operation” is not achieving any results. Losses are enormous, but there is not a single achieved goal. Except that there are no safe places in Russia any more, as Ukraine ramps up its special long-range sanctions.
To our allies, I want to say this: it is time to double down, not back down, in supporting Ukraine and increasing pressure on the Russian regime.
We call for additional defense capabilities, including to protect our sky; investment in our defense industry; increased pressure on Russia, including entry ban for Russian combatants, full use of frozen assets; strong political decisions with regard to Ukraine’s EU accession and other steps.
The world has the leverage. It needs to be used right — to show Moscow that such strikes will not bring any results — and force Russia to end this war.
The timing and the scale of the today’s attack isn’t a coincidence. It is a deliberate message to all those who is working hard to bring peace.
Right at the time when the leaders of the most powerful countries meet in Beijing and the world hopes for peace, predictability, and cooperation, Putin launched hundreds of drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, at the capital of Ukraine.
This barbaric attack during such an important summit shows that the Russian regime poses a global threat to international security. Instead of peace and development, Moscow pursues aggression and terror.
In Kyiv, entire blocks of residential buildings have been ruined, and there are killed and injured civilian people. Other cities and communities across the country came under strikes as well.
Putin wants this war to continue in order to prolong his control and rule over Russia. There should be no illusions or wishful thinking: only pressure on Moscow can force him to stop.
I am certain that the leaders of the United States and China have enough leverage over Moscow to tell Putin to finally end the war. And this would be the greatest positive development.

In Munich, I had a meaningful and productive meeting with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
We focused on ways to develop mutually beneficial trade and bilateral ties based on reciprocal respect for territorial integrity.
I reiterated Ukraine’s interest in contacts with China at the highest level.
We discussed peace efforts and China’s important role in facilitating an end to the war.
I informed my Chinese counterpart about the battlefield situation, Russian attacks against our energy system, and the damage to Chinese companies from Russian strikes.
I am grateful for Beijing’s decision to provide an additional humanitarian energy assistance package to Ukraine.
I also invited Minister Wang Yi to visit Ukraine and thanked him for the invitation to visit China.
