The Central Government has clarified the funding pattern for the CMRL Phase 2 project after DMK supporters claimed it to be a State Sector project with very minimal funds from the Central Govt.

I saw all BJP handles, more so from Tamil Nadu and many media handles too claiming that centre is providing the entire Rs. 63,246 crores for Chennai Metro phase 2. Here is a breakup of funding easy to understand:
Central government : Rs.7425 crores
State government: Rs.22,228 crores
Loans: Rs.33,593 crores
Total: Rs.63,246 crores
Looks like Tamil Nadu people would repay the loan of Rs.33,593 crores. The loans are being taken by CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Limited). They would repay the loans from ticket collections and so on.
So Tamil Nadu government (Rs.22,228 crores) and people of Tamil Nadu (Rs.33,593) are funding Rs.55,821 crores, 88% of the total cost.
Rs.7425 crores, 12% of the cost - is a pittance for central government. To pay this, centre dragged it's feet for so long and that too only after persistent follow-up from Tamil Nadu.
Even while agreeing to release this money, the centre through it's media communications, want to create an image of funding the entire cost of Rs.63,246 crores.
Pathetic behaviour, to say the least.
