Jochen Rindt was killed during practice for the 1970 #ItalianGP, #OnThisDay 55 years ago.
Charismatic, safety conscious and business savvy, he was every inch the modern racing driver and a thrilling, often sideways sight on track. He would be #F1's only posthumous champion. 🌟

Remembering Jochen today. I took this pic of him just after he'd stepped out of his high-wing GLTL Lotus 49T at Warwick Farm in 1969. That day, in the wet, Jochen delivered a masterclass of oversteer slide control.

Monza, September 5th, 1970.
The day when poor Jochen Rindt lost his life for no fault of his own. A brake failure approaching Parabolica in the fragile Lotus 72 (a trademark) brought death and disaster.
