Who is buying 50,000 thermal lenses from LightPath $LPTH On Tuesday @lightpathtech announced an order for more than 50,000 optical assemblies for drone camera systems from an unnamed “key defense customer”, with no value disclosed. My day job is advising Australian defence and advanced materials companies on getting into US defence supply chains, and from that seat this reads as a beachhead order, the first public proof that a major buyer trusts LightPath with a production line rather than a qualification lot. In this deep dive article I cover * Working through every candidate, from Leonardo DRS and Teledyne FLIR to Neros, Anduril and LightPath’s original European FPV customer, with the evidence for and against each * Why I think the buyer is a camera maker rather than a drone maker, and why that’s the better outcome for LightPath * Putting a range on what the order could be worth (roughly USD $5–$10M) and size it against FY26 revenue and backlog * Laying out what happens next if it’s DRS, whose 50,000-camera Tenum Orbit agreement from July lines up almost exactly * Mapping how LightPath now controls its own stack, from the glass it melts through to finished cameras and seekers The unit count is the story, as this is the first time Drone Dominance scale volume has shown up in a single LightPath order. A second order from this customer is what would turn it into a run rate, and I’ll be watching for it. Full article link in the first comment - enjoy. 🫦

Back in August I wrote that $LPTH was already the lead optics supplier to American drone makers and that the volume was coming as Drone Dominance scaled, and today's order for over 50,000 optical assemblies is the first time that volume has shown up in a single order. The line from the piece: "the company supplying three quarters of the industry's optics today is the qualified incumbent as those volumes arrive." The release doesn't tie this order to Drone Dominance specifically, but it's the volume and the cadence that matter here, with two assemblies orders in two weeks, and both are now showing up in the order book. @skrubin @michaelsikand 🥂🎯

Well good morning $LPTH My best guess on value is based on small infrared lens assemblies for Group 1 drones selling somewhere in the USD 50-200 range each, so probably USD 2.5-10M. The more important part is the volume and the cadence, as 50,000 units is a production run rather than a qualification lot, and it lands two weeks after a USD 6.3M follow-on from the C-UAS customer that had already placed USD 13M in July, so the assemblies business is now booking repeat orders at scale from what reads as two different customers. It also fits what the numbers were already showing, with assemblies and modules going from 23% of revenue in FY25 to 44% in FY26, and the release says they've been adding automation and capacity for exactly this kind of volume. The DoW is trying to field 200,000+ low-cost drones under Drone Dominance alone, and I suspect the list of suppliers who can actually ship NDAA-compliant infrared optics in the tens of thousands is a short one 🫦 Amazing work @skrubin and the @lightpathtech team Conviction will be rewarded. lightpath.com/press-viewer?i…

Following the Scrap China says recycling already supplies 10% of its rare earths, and it's now cutting duties to pull Western scrap back in. My new piece on why the West can't build an independent rare earth supply chain without recycling what it already has • Ex-China magnet production is 20-25k tonnes against ~250k tonnes of global demand, and the US makes almost no dysprosium • North American dysprosium oxide sits at roughly 12x the Chinese domestic price, which is what makes Western recycling pay • The US has already started keeping its battery scrap at home • The five things I screen for in the companies that carry this trade, and why $ION.AX @IondriveASX fits • The near term catalysts, with the 5t North American campaign and pilot plant both landing this quarter Full article in comment section (free) enjoy 🫦

Sounds great for Firmus 🙃

Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

Metallium and Traxys - why the MOU matters I've written up what today's Traxys MOU means for @Metallium_MTM • Who Traxys is and how it has backed producers like EQ Resources, Arafura and NioCorp • Why offtake and prepayment matter for funding the scale up • How it fits with Gator Point, Glencore and Indium • The terms, and the 31 December date I'm watching Full article in the first comment $MTM $MTM.AX $MTLMY Disclosure: I'm a paid strategic adviser to Metallium.

@UnusualMachines 👏 🐂 Yesterday I had the privilege of getting to spend the day with CEO @evansall & COO Drew Camden as they conducted a full scale tour of their facilities in Orlando, FL @RADHardTech did a interview w/ them back at HQ to close out the afternoon. Takeaways: I left thoroughly impressed by Allan, Drew, & the entire team that we got to interact with. As the company IPOed only 30 months ago, you can feel the percolating energy all over each facility. People proudly wearing $UMAC gear & enthusiastically focused on producing. They are scaling at an enormous clip & it’s obvious they are enacting great processes to make sure they can execute under ever increasing order book🚀 Sold more $UMAC Jan $17.5 Puts collected $3.35 & scooped up a bunch of shares 🧑‍🚀
🔋 It's official. $UMAC has completed its acquisition of Upgrade Energy. CEO Allan Evans said it best. “The industrial base is only as strong as the supply chain supporting it.” Adding U.S. battery manufacturing ➡️ another essential piece of the drone powertrain. 🦅 🔗 unusualmachines.com/press-re… #USManufacturing #Drones
