The American Heart Association mourns the passing of the legendary cardiologist Eugene Braunwald, M.D., widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the history of cardiovascular medicine. Over seven decades, his work reshaped the understanding and treatment of heart disease, leading many to call him the father of modern cardiology. Braunwald was a lifelong contributor to the American Heart Association, helping advance its research and scientific mission, and was honored with some of the Association’s highest honors for his lasting influence on cardiovascular care and research. His influence extended well beyond his own discoveries, as generations of Association‑supported investigators, clinicians and academic leaders were trained by Braunwald or guided by the clinical trial standards and mentorship models he helped establish. newsroom.heart.org/news/amer…

Sotatercept for for CpcPH-HFpEF, big congrats to the authors! Has a new dawn risen for this group of patients? Should we be studying alternate dosing in our PAH folks? @rjbernardoMD @Viniciodjperez @CircAHA

New 2026 ACC/AHA guidelines release for the evaluation and management of acute pulmonary embolism in adults. New risk categorization schema similar to 2019 ESC guidelines but significant change from 2011 AHA statement. ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/…

Pericardiocentesis - often one of the most hemodynamically gratifying procedures. Here's a way to do it under dynamic ultrasound guidance from the parasternal approach ....which may be better than more traditional approaches. youtu.be/TnPddxOCG5o?si=Mozm…

#POCUS reminder Stop saying a “collapsible IVC” means the patient (or a subject at a POCUS workshop) is dehydrated. First of all, dehydration ≠ volume depletion, and a <2 cm, collapsible IVC reflects neither of these when interpreted in isolation. #FOAMed #Nephpearls

1/11 #PAC 101 (The Catheter) A cath lab pt just arrived in your ICU with a pulmonary artery catheter (#PAC) in place. Your bedside nurse (limited #PAC experience) asks you to walk her through the basic PAC lumens and ports 😱 Fortunately for you, you had bookmarked the 🧵 👇🏻

1/2 PEG tubes don't decrease the risk of aspiration in patients with dementia. They don't improve mortality or functional status. They probably increase the risk of infection. Just because we can do it doesn't mean we should offer it.

1/15 🤔Why do antibiotics reduce the risk of rebleeding after acute variceal hemorrhage? I understand why antibiotics reduce infections, but the mechanism by which they reduce rebleeding is not immediately apparent. Let's have a look.
