@APHAgovuk have confirmed bird flu in mammals including 4 otters and 5 foxes. All otters we receive are now being tested for avian influenza prior to post mortem. So far, out of 48 otters, all have tested negative. More information on our website: cf.ac.uk/otter-project/news/…
Avian influenza in mammals: Confirmed findings of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in mammals include 4 otters and 5 foxes. It is likely that the virus spread to these animals via scavenging on infected wild birds. All the otters we receive are now being tested for avian influenza prior to post mortem. So far, out of 48 otters screened, all tested negative. Visit our website for more information.
