Joint Statement on Amendments to the 2018 Peace Agreement
In light of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly passing amendments to the 2018 peace agreement, the Embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, as well as the EU Delegation to South Sudan, reaffirm their grave concern about actions taken without the full consensus of all the signatories. They further reaffirm that the 2018 peace agreement remains the basis for the legitimacy of the transitional government. Any changes must be made through authentic dialogue involving all parties to the agreement. We further call on all parties to commit to an immediate cessation of hostilities.

Silencing the media at gunpoint is an attack on democracy itself. The military occupation and forced closure of Uganda's leading independent media houses is a grave violation of media freedom and the public's right to know. Journalists are not enemies of the state. Newsrooms are not military targets.
The Federation of African Journalists (@FAJafrica) calls on the authorities in Uganda to immediately reopen all media houses, withdraw military personnel and end all intimidation of journalists.

The Peace Agreement remains the basis of legitimacy for the transitional government in South Sudan. Unilateral changes to the Agreement are not in accordance with the letter and spirit of the Agreement and will not bring peace to South Sudan. We call for an immediate return to dialogue among all parties to the Peace Agreement.
