Look out for the Brent Goose on your estuarine walks – it’s one of our winter visitors, and numbers are in overall decline across Wales. This means looking after their Welsh winter homes is crucial. Please be careful not to disturb waders and wildfowl feeding on the shore.

Ashley, the first named storm of the year highlights the stressful and wild time autumn weather poses for new life around our coasts. When seal pups have been buffeted by big swells, they need time and space to recover. Give them space and remember…keep your pooch well away!

Wildlife disturbance is the term given to things we do that change wildlife behaviour or habitats. What can you do: - Give them space! View through a camera or with binoculars - keep quiet - keep dogs on leads - move away calmly and quietly if you think a seal has spotted you

🦭 If you see seals resting on the beach 🚫 do not approach them, particularly between August and December when they often have pups. If they look like they are scared or aggravated, moving away from them can prevent a stampede into the sea. @CanoeWales

The grey seal is by far the most common you will see in Wales. 🦭 In the UK we have over 40% of the entire world’s population, so it’s important we know how to behave around them to ensure they can feed, breed, rest and swim safely. 😊 #WalesCoastExplorer
