Peter Max was troubled by the world as it was and pictured it as it should be, with kindness for people, animals, and the planet we share. He was a great supporter of @PCRM and a great friend.

Tonight, I’ll be at the Kennedy Center, thanking @billmaher as he receives the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Bill has helped the Physicians Committee push Congress to improve nutrition in America and helped us replace animals in research and education.
In this @PCRM ad to eliminate animal laboratories at the University of Colorado’s medical school, Bill said, “Don’t let your medical education go to the dogs… or rabbits, rats, or other animals, for that matter. Nearly 70 percent of North American medical schools have dropped animal laboratories from their curricula, and we ought to be able to do the same at CU.”
Bill not only helped us win that campaign; he helped us make that figure 100 percent.

Colorectal cancer affects so many families, but the encouraging news is that your plate is one of the most powerful tools you have to often prevent it.
This March, nourish your colon the same way you care for the rest of your health.

Macalester College still uses and kills rats in psychology courses even though most universities replaced animal labs years ago.
Students don’t support this.
83% say animals shouldn’t be used when alternatives exist.

Someone said veggies are unhealthy? 🚩
Science—and common sense—says otherwise.
A plant-based diet supports long-term health and lowers disease risk.

Good news for science: Sustained physician advocacy and public engagement are helping push research toward modern, human-based approaches. OHSU’s vote is an important step in that direction.

The new Dietary Guidelines are a mixed bag. It’s great to see more emphasis on fruits, vegetables, and limiting saturated fat—but they still promote meat and dairy, which are the top sources of that very same fat.
We can do better.

Students are asking for more plant-based options at school — but school districts face barriers in meeting that demand. Rep @NydiaVelazquez & @RepAdams Plant Powered School Meals Pilot Act would change that. Take action: actionnetwork.org/letters/te… #SchoolFood #SchoolMeals

As a physician, I’m concerned when we lump all “ultra-processed” foods together. Not all are harmful; many plant-based ones are actually linked to lower diabetes risk. The real issue isn’t processing; it’s what we’re processing.

Processed food isn’t just made in factories. Civet coffee and foie gras are processed inside animals through digestion or force-feeding. It’s a reminder that food processing can take disturbing forms, especially when animals are treated like machines.
