Adam and Eve obeyed God’s command to “be fruitful and multiply”.  But Genesis implies that Cain was their first child... and that he was conceived after the Fall.  This points to the Fall occurring very soon after Creation, perhaps within three or four weeks. Adam’s age was counted from his creation, and Genesis clearly distinguishes years from months, so the patriarchs’ great ages should be taken at face value. Some Precambrian pyroclastic deposits are 10–20 times thicker than those produced by the 1980 Mt St Helens eruption. Some of them may be up to 84 times thicker.  They preserve ashfall tuffs, accretionary lapilli, and volcanic bombs.  That points us to violent eruptions that filled the air with ash, dust, and gas.  Max Hunter argues that that kind of widespread destruction fits the early Genesis Flood far better than God’s “very good” Creation Week.
