After weeks of increasingly sophisticated and relentless attacks against us and several of our trusted partners, we made the decision to go dark while we complete a full security audit and harden our systems.
This is not a step we take lightly. Playasia has been our home, and your home, for nearly 24 years, and the thought of stepping away even for a short while breaks my heart.
These attacks are not random. From what we have seen in the attackers' own source code comments, we are listed as one numbered goal among tens of thousands of other targets. That tells us this is a coordinated, systemic campaign, not something aimed only at Playasia.
Watching our team work around the clock, exhausted but still fighting to protect what we have built together, has brought me to tears more than once. Many of them have families who depend on them. I have my own. The passion that has driven this community of gamers serving fellow gamers for over two decades is something we will not let anyone take from us.

This is why I said, AI will not solve all your issues, it will not democratize everything to the point where you can do whatever.
Because the systems that be don't want that, of course they wouldn't.
The focus should've always been the most simple thing. Control the apparatus in which AI is spread aka the supply chains and the govt involved.
This magical fairy tale that AI will solve all the issues plaguing people with games, literature, art and more. Is just that, a fairy tale.
Once they move to ban local models, that leaves mostly only the bigger players. Which have guardrails galore.
The "No Restrictions" on the AI growth they have in place, are only in that it doesn't restrict their company growth. It for sure restricts what the AI can actually do.
Meaning while the AIs can saturate without much penalty, they will just be neutered and useless. With only the bigger powers having the stronger models and more.
You won't win any culture wars with this, you won't win any races with others, you won't enter the new frontier of the world or whatever else imaginary fairytale people thought would happen.
Even if by some miracle they don't touch the literal software/AI itself. They will also control the literal supply of the hardware needed to run these. Make it so expensive that you can't even think nor imagine using it.
The powers that be won't give a crap if you make the umpteenth AI "movie" "Art" whatever about something like Malfoid. But they sure as hell will care that you have a local model that can make it so you don't have to use their pre-approved AI.
This proves it.
"They are going to make your AI models illegal".
Anyone who thought that this wouldn't be coming is just delusional.
I understand wanting to restrict apps and cloud services hosting the DeepSeek models. But the DHS has moved to ban all DeepSeek models regardless of their form, citing nonsense that the "models themselves may contain malware".
It's a profound misunderstanding of technology used as an excuse to ban certain AI models.
There is no evidence that the model weights themselves in the safetensors format could be used to execute arbitrary code, or that GGUF could load malicious scripts. All of that vulnerability resides in the model loaders, which is independent of the AI model itself.
Today they are banning it just for federal civilian agency systems... what's going to stop them from banning it from being hosted on Hugging Face?
When the paranoid people said that they are probably going to make local AI models illegal... well, we're seeing the first signs of it now.
