Ideally you want the people closest to the problem/project designing and deploying AI.
Deep understanding of the business and processes + general education/awareness of what AI can do
That combo is very potent.
What doesn’t work is implementing AI from on high.
This is why you see PE folks and others who are multiple degrees away from the AI solution very skeptical of ROI.
They see spend, but no return. It’s possible that’s because the solutions are top down.
Someone at the top is saying “we need to use AI.”
Ideally folks doing the work identify AI solutions, but that’s not always going to happen.
So, it’s important to educate the org on what AI can do and truly partner with (listen+incentivize) the front line to implement.
Finally, we are still so early. You should be experimenting. Not every dollar is going to have an immediate positive ROI. That is ok, within limits.
But long term, what is the ROI on having an entire organization that moves fast and leverages AI?
Incalculable.
Our company is seeing unbelievable productivity gains, with more on the horizon.
I honestly can’t understand how others are not.
It started with editing, spreadsheets, and modeling.
It spread to research. Then it spread to internal reporting.
And now we are exploring deploying bots en masse.
If you aren’t seeing productivity gains, you are falling behind.

🚨📚Book Rec: The Compounders
“The compounders offer a permanent home for entrepreneurs, allowing their businesses to continue operating independently and flourish while benefiting from the resources and support of a larger parent company”
Sounds easy, is actually very hard.

I used to write content for deca-millionaires and centi-millionaires. This is how most of them operate.
Way better than the “gurus” out there.
Last night Bitcoin hit an all time high of more than $125k.
It trades 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 100% liquidity at all times.
Compare that to Wall Street. It is open 32.5 hours per week, unless there’s a holiday. That means you are liquid <20% of the week. If you sleep 8 hrs/day, it’s more like 30%.
Now compare that to private equity. You are only liquid when someone decides to sell a business, typically after several years of ownership.
What do you get for that illiquidity? Superior returns?
Not really.
You can find all kinds of data on PE returns (net of fees), some suggesting slight outperformance vs the S&P500 (div reinvested) and others suggesting underperformance. All the data suggest any outperformance is compressing recently.
And, keep in mind these “returns” include unrealized gains (i.e., what the current PE firm *thinks* their asset is worth).
The bottom line point is: PE returns approximate the S&P500.
PE investments probably make sense if you are a GP or an operator inside a business getting sweat equity. You are getting juice on top of your investment.
Maybe it makes sense if you are an institution so large that you just have to deploy capital somewhere.
But for the everyday retail investor, it’s hard to justify.
Buy bitcoin. Buy equity indexes.
Preserve liquidity and outperform.

Replying to @BoringBiz_
I left millions on the table because I was mortgaging my life for money, renting out my years so I could get a little more.
Meanwhile my natural gifting was being suppressed.
For anyone who does this, it is often a long, complicated story. True for me too.
A book that really helped me see this was Living Fearless.
Should probably write up a post on this sometime!

We are #hiring a lead Robotics Engineer.
Durin is on a mission to bring mining tech out of the Stone Age—literally. We are building the ultimate automation force behind global mining, to deliver limitless resources to humanity, starting with next-gen exploration drilling rigs.
We need a Lead Robotics Engineer who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty. Like, dirt dirty. This isn’t a laid-back, “tweak a CAD model and call it a day” kind of gig. You’ll be on mining sites in places you didn’t know exisit, integrating sensors, actuators, and control algorithms, making real stuff move in unpredictable conditions, fast.
We’re talking from-scratch engineering on big machines that literally move dirt and rock halfway around the world—machines that barely changed for half a century. If you’re the kind of engineer who can refine systems until they hum in the harshest conditions, we need you. You’ll be the one bringing them into the future. You’ll own an entire product vertical, build a team, have a say in what comes next, and watch your ideas come to life before your eyes.
We’re based in El Segundo (LA) offering equity, meals, housing, and an opportunity to 1000x the foundation of the world’s supply chain. We’re not here for a cushy 9-to-5; we’re here to build the damn future. If that excites you more than a cushy corner office, let’s talk.

You should listen to this interview whether you "believe" in bitcoin or not.
If are not already a bitcoiner, @saylor will show you that a) it is the best store of value and b) adoption will accelerate, in accordance with historical technological innovation.
The problem is that most people who are not already convinced will not take the time to watch this.
Exit the echo chamber. Watch this with an open mind.

Here is a list of billion dollar ideas….
Totally free- no cost to you.
- Netflix favorites- just like on Spotify. Imagine sitting down and clicking shuffle on your favorite episodes.
- MyFitnessPal EOD rec- take the macros/cals I have left at the end of the day and make food recommendations to fit.
- Podcast following- a dedicated feed of topics or people. Follow “Jerry Seinfeld” and see every pod episode where he was interviewed.
- Integrated headphone- we’ve got pens in smartphones but an earpiece would be so much more valuable. Doesn’t need to be perfect, just smash it in there.
Take one of these ideas and run with it. Choose rich.

I read this purely on @APompliano’s rec…🔥 as usual
I highly recommend giving it a read because it’s a compelling story whether you are in finance or not.
But it also had a major impact on me, having worked for private investment firms.
Carrie hits the 🎯 at the end.
So many in conventional finance (and elsewhere) cannot understand someone who has bigger goals than making money.
They want to box you in to a role, an archetype. They want to define your strengths and tell you what’s best for you.
Don’t let them.

Not all PE firms are the same.
The worst ones…
…Are spreadsheet jockeys who have never worked for a company
…Are system players trying to make themselves rich(er)
…Do not care about the people in the company. At all
…Justify selfish behavior in the name of capitalism
…Do not admit mistakes or acknowledge responsibility
…Bark orders at people closer to the problems
…Lack all self awareness.
…Are reading this and thinking that this particular manager (me) doesn’t get it

That's by far the #1 question I get asked.
