why must we jump to extremes?
we care about writing quality because it’s what makes any story readable let alone enjoyable.
y’all don’t care? cool. but it absolutely has a place in amateur spaces. basic tips for punctuation, etc. ≠ writers being held to unrealistic standards.

idk why everyone is so pressed that ppl keep giving writing advice. i actually love debating technique? and it's also cool to hear things readers enjoy/don't enjoy in the writing (not so much the plot) bc in fic comments it's very impolite to do so and criticize someone directly
no deadass. they would blow a gasket reading some of reviews was dishing out 15 years ago—reviews that were celebrated, mind you, bc ppl could tell the difference between thoughtful feedback and “flames.”

'LET THEM SUCK THEY'RE NOT REAL WRITERS' is not the kindness to fic writers y'all pretend it is

cue 2,421 of retweets asserting that fanfiction *is* uniquely exempt from general analysis/critique bc writers are “just doing this for fun 🥺”
followed by another week of writers wondering why the fic they put bare minimum effort in isn’t getting kudos, comments, or bookmarks
no, writers are not obligated to heed feedback or to even improve their craft, but it IS a craft that benefits from feedback.
many of y’all seem to want fanfiction to be this magical space where fics are happily, mindlessly consumed bc y’all conflate hate with critique.

i think it bothers me that some fic writers seem to peddle the "it's just a hobby! we're not taking it seriously!" thing as if it's a universal truth. i take it seriously. i want to be good at my hobby. and it's fine if you don't, but i do

do fanfiction writers on here even like writing because they are not acting like it

how is sharing general, undirected writing advice discouraging people from developing a skill. taking in advice is precisely how to develop a skill! you're devaluing fanfic and other amateur/hobbyist writing by implying it shouldn't ever be used as a way to hone one's craft lol

i’m acc of the belief that fic writers don’t need to improve their craft for it to be worthwhile within itself but why is it that each and every time some offers a really general throwaway piece of advice that triggers so much rage and angst? you don’t need to utilise any

Being in a fandom where drama is frequent but you aren't 15 anymore so you don't care
