1000% this thread audiophilism in hip hop esp re sample fidelity is backwards imo ppl sampled from tape ie "Public Enemy #1" + both JBeez + Black Moon debut LPs Bomb Squad also sampled via 8bit Ensoniq Mirage the SP1200 was 12bit highkey some "real DJ=vinyl only" traditionalism

My thing abt this sample discourse is - I think in a lot of contexts fidelity is overvalued over character. A sample doesn't have to sound high quality to be resonant cause we making hip hop beats
