Our Wednesday crush that we celebrate today is Pada Platform co-founder and Director @Farisai81 Karen Mukwasi, Ms Kay to the girls. Karen Mukwasi is the 2025 recipient of the Weimar Human Rights Award. The Award committee recognized her for her work on women’s digital rights and inclusion, women’s digital security and her commitment to the rights of women in Africa. This is validation of our Labour of love. It is wonderful to know that someone sees us. In her speech at the Awards ceremony Karen appealed to African Leaders to prioritize citizens over power retention and to stop the war on women’s bodies. She also appealed to the women in the world to speak up for women in the Congo and in Sudan. We’re incredibly proud of this 𝒫𝒽𝑒𝓃𝑜𝓂𝑒𝓃𝒶𝓁 𝓌𝑜𝓂𝒶𝓃!

🚫 No girl should have to endure the physical trauma and lifelong health risks of female genital mutilation (FGM). Every year, millions of girls undergo FGM before they even understand what is happening to them. Join @UNFPA in calling to #EndFGM: unf.pa/fgu

These aren’t just statistics, there are real people behind the figures and names. Lives lost to this increasingly concerning rise in IPV. As a country, a nation without a pervasive history of murders this is extremely concerning. #IPV #Endvawg

#Consent must be given freely and cannot be provided by someone who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. There’s #NoExcuse to violate consent or place blame on anyone whose consent has been violated. #ForAllWomenAndGirls, it’s time to create a culture of consent.

We have all seen the headline. They tell us what happened, and they tell us the sentence. But they do not tell us what happens next. They do not tell us about the girl who will wake up every morning with a knot in her stomach, who will flinch when a man walks too close, who will hear his footsteps in her dreams long after he is locked away. They do not tell us about the father who heard her cries and will carry that sound in his ears for the rest of his life, wondering if he could have reached her sooner. The court has done its part, and maybe that brings a measure of justice. But prison years might seem like the end of fear, while the trauma stays for life. He will serve his time, and then his debt to society will be considered paid. She will serve a lifetime, and no judge can reduce that sentence. That is the after-effect no headline captures. That is the part we need to talk about. We need to talk about healing that does not end when the trial ends, about counselling that is available and affordable and ongoing, about communities that wrap around survivors instead of whispering about them. We need to talk about prevention so that no other child has to carry this scar. That is the after effect no headline captures. And that is where GBV truly lives not only in the act itself, but in the silence that follows, in the shame that gets misplaced, in the systems that fail to protect and then fail to heal. If it isn’t the headlines of rape, it’s GBV. It is the everyday violations we ignore, the fear women and girls carry just walking home, the culture that teaches silence instead of consent. We cannot keep reacting only when the story is shocking enough to trend. We have to speak and support survivors, and demand severe consequences every single day. Because if all we do is share the headline and move on, we are not part of the solution. We are just spectators. #StopIt #StopGBV #EndGBV #StopRape #JusticeForSurvivors

We are not just failing women. We are failing children who grow up watching violence, failing communities that stay silent, failing a country that cannot afford to lose its people to preventable brutality. The economic cost is staggering, but the human cost ,the trauma, the broken homes, the girls who drop out of school because they were violated on the way there ,that cannot be measured. What makes this uniquely Zimbabwean is how deeply we have normalised it. A survey found that 40% of women and 27% of men believe a husband is justified in beating his wife. We have raised generations to see violence as discipline, as love, as something a woman must endure. That is the root we keep refusing to pull out. The government has the policies. The National Strategy exists. The High Level Political Compact was signed. But policies do not stop a fist. They do not open a door for a woman who has nowhere to run. Until financing matches the rhetoric, until communities stop protecting abusers, until we teach our sons that "no" means "no" and our daughters that they do not have to stay ,we will keep counting bodies and writing the same article with different names. This is not a women's problem. It is a national crisis. And we are all complicit in our silence. @LynneStactia @weleadteam @zulukingggg @zimsolidarity01 @SABCNews @AJENews @amnesty @MacBelts @OpenParlyZw @TateChangam @OMasaraure @EmmanuelSitima7 @ARTUZ_teachers @SoniaMarrion @JobSikhala1 @agencygumbo @africaIYP @DougCol
