"Mother Who Jumped from the Train – Czechoslovakia, 1943. A Jewish mother on a transport train to Auschwitz broke a window and pushed her young daughter out into the snow as the train slowed on a bend. She kissed her once and whispered, “Run.” The girl landed in a ditch, bruised but alive, as the train roared away.
Villagers found her and kept her hidden until the war’s end. She never saw her mother again, but for the rest of her life, she told people: “My mother gave me my life twice—once at birth, and once on that train.”

🚨 CERN Scientists Are Investigating Strange Particle Decays That Could Point to New Physics!
What if some of the smallest particles in the universe are behaving in ways our best theories cannot fully explain?
At CERN, scientists are studying rare transformations of particles called B mesons. These particles can decay into other particles through processes known as penguin decays. By examining these rare events, researchers can test whether the behavior of matter matches the predictions of the Standard Model, the theory that explains many of the fundamental particles and forces in the universe.
If reliable differences between predictions and observations are confirmed, they could offer important clues about physics beyond our current understanding. Hypothetically, new particles or previously unknown forces could be influencing these processes in ways existing theories do not predict.
However, an unexpected result does not automatically mean the laws of physics are breaking down. Scientists must rule out measurement errors, statistical fluctuations and uncertainties in their calculations before claiming a discovery.
The stakes are enormous. The Standard Model cannot fully explain dark matter or incorporate gravity into its framework, leaving major questions about the universe unanswered. Confirmed evidence of new physics could help researchers begin to address some of these mysteries.
Could these tiny particles hold clues to a much bigger discovery? Scientists will need stronger evidence before drawing that conclusion, but rare particle decays remain a powerful way to search for answers beyond our current understanding of the universe.

30 years of the Partnership for Peace: visit to Switzerland by ambassadors from NATO member states
Bern, 23.10.2026 — To mark the 30th anniversary of the Partnership for Peace between Switzerland and NATO, representatives from 27 NATO member states visited Switzerland from 21 to 23 October. The focus was on the long-standing cooperation with NATO and its further development in light of the changing security situation in Europe. The ambassadors were given an insight into specific aspects of Swiss security policy and cooperation with NATO. The visit also provided an opportunity for high-level discussions.
Switzerland has been participating in NATO’s Partnership for Peace (PfP) for 30 years. The PfP was established in 1996 and has proved to be a valuable framework for international cooperation on security policy. It enables Switzerland to engage in regular dialogue with NATO and its member states and provides a framework for cooperation based on mutual interest.
To mark this anniversary, the permanent representatives of 27 of the 32 NATO member states based in Brussels travelled to Switzerland. Their visit gave them an insight into key areas of Swiss security policy. The focus was on innovation, including a visit to ETH Zurich's innovation campus; the protection of critical infrastructure; the Swiss Armed Forces' SWISSINT centre for peace support operations abroad; resilience and civil protection; and the defence industry, explored through discussions with several Swiss companies and start-ups. Other items on the programme focused on the Swiss Armed Forces and the Swiss militia system. The delegation visited an army exercise, the Cyber Command and the armasuisse drone and robotics centre. The visit enabled Switzerland to demonstrate how, as a neutral country, it makes tangible contributions to international security while at the same time further developing its own capabilities.
Switzerland's security policy context has changed fundamentally in recent years. Russia's war against Ukraine marks a turning point and has significantly exacerbated the security situation in Europe. With the Security Policy Strategy 2026, the Federal Council is taking this development into account. It focuses on enhancing Switzerland's resilience, improving protection and prevention measures, further developing Swiss defence capabilities, and strengthening international cooperation in the field of defence. The itinerary of the visit highlighted how these areas are interlinked and how Switzerland contributes both to its own security and to NATO's priorities.
Political dialogue and practical cooperation
Federal Councillor Martin Pfister, the head of the DDPS, Markus Mäder, the state secretary for security policy, and Benedikt Roos, chief of the Swiss Armed Forces, focused on political dialogue and practical cooperation. The Federal Council's delegate for Ukraine, Jacques Gerber, then presented the country programme for Ukraine.
Switzerland's specific contributions to cooperation with NATO include the deployment of SWISSCOY as part of the Kosovo Force (KFOR), the three Geneva-based centres (the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining and the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance), education and training programmes, support for Ukraine, and research and technology projects. Through the 2025–28 partnership programme (Individually Tailored Partnership Programme), Switzerland is focusing on the areas of interoperability, the defence industry and innovation, resilience, and the protection of critical infrastructure.

What If the Big Bang Wasn't the Beginning of Everything? 🌌
What if our universe is not the first to exist — but the latest chapter in a cosmic story that began long before the Big Bang?
Nobel Prize-winning physicist Sir Roger Penrose has proposed a fascinating theory called Conformal Cyclic Cosmology (CCC).
According to this idea, the universe may pass through successive cosmic eras, known as aeons. The unimaginably distant future of one aeon could, through a mathematical transformation, connect to the Big Bang of the next.
In this picture, the Big Bang wasn't necessarily the absolute beginning of reality. It may have marked a transition from an earlier cosmic era into our own.
Penrose and his collaborators have explored whether traces of a previous aeon might be detectable in the cosmic microwave background — the ancient radiation left over from the early universe.
But here's the important distinction: this remains a speculative scientific hypothesis, not an established discovery. Its proposed observational evidence is disputed, and the standard cosmological model remains strongly supported by observations.
Still, the possibility is extraordinary.
Perhaps the universe has a history far older than the 13.8 billion years we can trace back through our own cosmic expansion.
What if the Big Bang wasn't the first page of existence, but the beginning of another chapter? ✨

🚨 THIS TURKEY–LIBYA STORY IS MUCH BIGGER THAN IT IS BEING TREATED
Libya’s parliament has now ratified the controversial Turkey–Libya maritime agreement, drawing an asserted maritime corridor across the Eastern Mediterranean that Greece, Cyprus and the EU say violates the sovereign rights of other states.
But look at the bigger strategic picture.
Hormuz. Bab el-Mandeb. Now the Eastern Mediterranean.
Three of the waterways and maritime approaches most critical to the movement of energy, commerce and military power are increasingly becoming arenas of confrontation involving Islamist or Iranian-aligned powers.
And this time, one of the principal actors is Turkey — a NATO member.
The Turkey–Libya agreement does not itself give Ankara the legal right to stop ships crossing the Mediterranean. But it dramatically strengthens Turkey’s claim to maritime jurisdiction across an area connecting the Turkish and Libyan coasts — directly challenging Greece and Cyprus and potentially affecting energy exploration, pipelines, undersea infrastructure and future naval freedom of action.
For Israel, this should be a strategic warning.
To our south, access through the Red Sea already depends on an increasingly contested Bab el-Mandeb.
To our west, Turkey possesses one of the strongest navies and air forces in the region and is steadily expanding its military reach in Libya.
Israel, Greece and Cyprus therefore need to think about the Eastern Mediterranean not simply as an energy partnership — but increasingly as a shared maritime-security theater.
The question is no longer only who owns the gas.
It is who will guarantee freedom of movement in the Eastern Mediterranean when the regional balance of power is tested.
