“Last I checked, this was Coors Field” is a line that should have staying power for Rockies fans on social media.

Worst DH in the history of World Series
#Rockies Jack O’Dowd, undrafted and playing independent league baseball less than a year ago, leads the Arizona Fall League with 5 home runs.
The 26-year-old C/1B is also 1st in SLG (.825), 2nd in OPS (1.206) and tied for 3rd in RBI (12).
It was on this date in 2007 that the Colorado Rockies made their first World Series appearance.
The starting lineup:
CF Willy Taveras
2B Kazuo Matsui
LF Matt Holliday
1B Todd Helton
3B Garrett Atkins
RF Brad Hawpe
SS Troy Tulowitzki
C Yorvit Torrealba
DH Ryan Spilborghs

I have really enjoyed hearing fans talk about how hard caps benefit small market teams. I agree there should be a floor. But why push for a hard cap now? Baseball is in strong position with fans, attendance and health of the game. Why risk a work stoppage now for a system that doesn’t work as currently proposed? Wait for league expansion to 32 teams, wait for the next large television deal to be done. Restructure revenue sharing. The loss of RSN money is a real impact to owners, it is an issue that can be solved, but illustrates why spending is impacted by markets that dont have the same fan base or their own network.
For 2027, 1. Start with a threshold at the bottom like the top. Teams below threshold lose a percentage of revenue sharing. 2. Punish top spenders more with loss of draft picks. 3. Allow for all draft picks to be traded, issue has been with draft pool money, that can be fixed. 4. Increase one roster spot from 26 to 27, all teams can now have 14 pitchers which removes the two way player distinction which was massive advantage Dodgers have. No more position players pitching, teams can have 4, 5, 6 man rotation and bullpens which can help keep arms healthier over the course of the season. 5. Improve the performance pool for players beyond the pre-arb pool. It can come out of a central pool that doesn’t impact a specific payroll. This now allows for veteran free agent players to sign team friendly deals but can earn higher amounts because of the performance pool, players will seek opportunities to play and earn. This can reward what the league wants to value, higher batting average, OBP, SB, whatever. Similar to “fight” money I received in Japan.
By waiting for the TV deal and expansion, the league will have a much better grasp on the finances of the league. Pushing for a hard cap now is too early, and the distance between the floor and the top is still substantial and doesn’t fix what fans are saying. Players are completely opposed to a cap, but could be revisited next CBA because the floor should be substantially higher, meaning a much larger amount of capital that can be reinvested by smaller markets.
The reality for a player is the average length of a career is less than 3 years, why? Because teams opt not to pay guys through arbitration, a team choice not player, while still under control. Raising minimums helps the rank and file players substantially. Most players don’t make it to free agency or arbitration. Removing the last year of Arb is a good proposal by Owners, so is getting free agency earlier. The trade values increase. Good for everyone.
Coaching, scouting, and what is spent in player development is real. And the teams that have invested in it have seen results. Not all teams are on the same footing here. Why Rays and Brewers get highlighted this World Series, they have the most scouts, they also have some of the biggest front offices, and take advantage of trading players for value from players that 1. starting to earn more and have real value, 2. Getting older so there is a greater risk. Larger scouting means more players from other organizations can be seen, allows for bigger presence in Latin America, Japan and other foreign countries. Just another advantage teams with bigger front offices staffs have, its not just analytics. Medical and player development are HUGE opportunities to help the players you draft and acquire become better. Even MLB players from inside our outside the org. Those staffs are an advantage, look at Kyle Snyder with Rays.
There are many changes that can benefit owners, players and fans alike without risking a work stoppage. It feels like phasing is wrong. Keep it simple. The spending floor should have happened years ago. Wait for expansion and new TV deal in 2028, networks don’t need a cap for that. Revenue sharing and a better central fund for player performance works. The cap currently proposed looks like a push for franchise values. Not competition. Thoughts?
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Milwaukee Brewers. 2026 World Series.
First time we'll have a first-time winner since 2019 (Nationals). First time with purple in the Fall Classic since 2007 (Rockies).
And only the second time in over 100 years we are guaranteed a team to win their first ring. The only other instance: 1980 - Philadelphia Phillies over Kansas City Royals.
Sam Hilliard hit .304 with 44 home runs and 139 RBI this season in Korea and led the KT Wiz to a 1st-place finish.
Hilliard, an MVP candidate, became the first foreign hitter with 40+ HR and 120+ RBI in their debut KBO season.

Three teams left, and all three have bigger-than-average analytics staffs.
Brewers: 46 (2nd in MLB)
Rays: 39
Guardians: 30
League average: 28.5
The Phillies have the biggest staff in baseball, and they're already home. Like payroll, it's one input. Everything else combined still matters more.

What does @Rockies 2026 second-rounder Logan Reddemann have to do to become a Top 100 prospect?

Who will play a game at Coors Field first in 2027: the Colorado Rockies or the Savannah Bananas? 🤔
On this date in 1992, ground is broken on the future site of Coors Field.
One overlooked detail of the Rockies ballpark is on the corner of Blake & 22nd.
This building, home to The Sandlot Brewery, was first erected in 1913, one year after Fenway and one year before Wrigley.
The Milwaukee Brewers look like a force to win their 1st ever ring.
However, they’ll have 8 days - 7 days between games - before the start of the 2026 World Series.
Gotta wonder if Pat Murphy is calling those from the 2007 Colorado Rockies who had 8 off-days, then got swept.
Ding-Dong! The Dodgers Are Dead!
The Milwaukee Brewers win Game 4 in Los Angeles for a clean sweep of the NLCS.
MLB’s 19th-highest payroll defeats the team that’s 1st.
Meanwhile in the ALCS, it’s no. 25 vs no. 30. Maybe baseball isn’t broken after all.

The Rockies have fired pitching coach Alon Leichman, sources tell me and @keithlaw. Leichman lasted only one season.
It may not be the official BBWAA end of season awards, but #Rockies TJ Rumfield has been acknowledged by his peers as one of top 3 NL rookies in 2026.
🚨 Congratulations to the 2026 Players Choice Awards Finalists!🚨
Since 1992, the Players Choice Awards have celebrated excellence across Major League Baseball, recognizing performance, leadership, perseverance, and impact on and off the field. The awards are especially meaningful to players, because they’re determined through a vote of their peers. The winners will be revealed the week of Oct 26. Congratulations to this year's Finalists!

The 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award Finalists - NL First Base - Ty France, Matt Olson, TJ Rumfield
#RawlingsGoldGloveAwards
Ryan Vilade has the Yankees on the brink of elimination with an opposite field home run in the Bronx.
Vilade’s first postseason homer with the Rays is one more than he ever hit with the Colorado Rockies in the regular season.
#Rockies TJ Rumfield has been named to the MLB Pipeline All-Rookie Second Team.
Munetaka Murakami of the Chicago White Sox was named to the First Team.
Notable because I don’t believe The Joker has ever been to a Colorado Rockies game during his 12+ years in Denver.
Entering 2026, the most home runs in a single-season hit by #Rockies catchers - whether they were playing at C, DH or PH - was 34 in 2012.
Goodman broke the franchise record by himself on Aug. 25.
Along with Brett Sullivan (7 HR), Colorado lead the NL this year with 49 homers by primary catchers.
Last year, when Hunter Goodman broke the team record with 31 home runs by a catcher, Braxton Fulford was the only other catcher to hit a homer (1 HR) in the 254 plate appearances for all catcher not named Hunter Goodman.
What's even more remarkable: the National League record for most dingers by a team was 49 set by the 1965 Milwaukee Braves thanks to Hall of Famer Joe Torre (27 HR), Gene Oliver (21) and Jesse Gonder (1 HR).
Now, the 2026 Colorado Rockies can claim a share of that record.
