Prof. Nelson Wawire, representing the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance), Prof. Paul Gachanja, highlighted the strategic role of KUSA leadership in promoting university governance, student security and safety during the 22nd KUSA Induction Seminar 2026 at North Coast Beach Hotel, Mombasa. Beginning with a virtual tour of the University, Prof. Wawire congratulated the newly elected KUSA leaders and challenged them to recognise that leadership goes beyond winning elections. He urged them to translate campaign promises into meaningful actions that address students' needs. He further emphasised the importance of understanding the University's governance and administrative structures, noting that this knowledge would enable student leaders to navigate institutional systems effectively and engage relevant offices when addressing student concerns. #KUSAInduction2026 #KenyattaUniversity #BeyondTheBallot #StudentLeadership #UniversityGovernance #StudentSafety #AccountableGovernance

The meeting ends. The real work begins. The presentations are over. The notes are packed away. Delegates will soon head home. But what happens to the ideas we shared once we leave the room? At the first Health Happens Here (HHH) Global Meeting in Nairobi, Days 3 and 4 brought the conversation back to a question that matters beyond any conference: What is actually changing in people’s lives? Across conversations on sustainable financing, organisational capacity, digital safety, innovation and governance, one message kept coming through: good ideas are not enough. For change to last, communities need ownership. Organisations need the capacity to carry the work forward. And young people need more than a seat in the room they need meaningful opportunities to influence decisions, shape programmes and hold systems accountable. For RHNK, this opened up two opportunities: a proposed capacity strengthening initiative and Kenya’s inclusion in the first phase of the HHH seed-grant initiative. One approach RHNK is exploring builds on existing youth advocacy networks by connecting youth advocates and community-based organisations with vocational training centres creating stronger pathways to reach young people in the informal sector. In West Pokot, this could mean creating more opportunities for young people and community organisations to move from being consulted to helping shape what happens next. And that distinction matters. Because participation should not end when the meeting does. It should show up in decisions, programmes, budgets, accountability and, ultimately, in young people’s everyday experiences. As partners look towards 2027, the challenge is clear: turn shared commitments into action that communities can own and sustain. We appreciate @RutgersNL for bringing partners together, creating space for cross-country learning and, importantly, giving us room to question what is working, what is not, and what needs to change. After four days of conversations, the real measure of this meeting will not be how much we discussed in Nairobi. It will be what looks different when we return to our communities. #HealthHappensHere #YouthParticipation #YouthLedChange #SRHR @RutgersNL @NCPD_Kenya

What if solving a persistent health challenge starts with asking a better question? Why does a referral sometimes end at a phone message instead of a completed service? What keeps contraceptives from reaching facilities when young people need them? And which youth-friendly services can county governments realistically finance, sustain and scale? These were some of the questions on the table on Day 2 of the Health Happens Here (HHH) Global Meeting in Nairobi, as partners moved beyond identifying challenges to asking what it would take to actually solve them. For RHNK, the conversation brought the focus back to West Pokot County, where proposed operational research will explore which youth-friendly service models can work within existing county systems not just as successful projects, but as services that can be financed, sustained and scaled. The research will also look at a reality that cannot be ignored: what happens to access when drought, flooding, insecurity or displacement disrupts everyday life? Three potential research pathways emerged: * factors influencing quality of care; * completion of digital referrals; and * facility-level contraceptive stock-outs. Each points to a different gap in the health system. But together, they raise a bigger question: What do we need to understand better before we can build solutions that last? That is where operational research matters. It takes a recurring problem and asks why it keeps happening, what can realistically change, and what evidence can guide that change. Through the HHH programme, supported by Rutgers International, partners are creating space to learn across countries, test assumptions and generate evidence that can strengthen implementation. Because sometimes the difference between repeating the same challenge and solving it is not another intervention. It is asking a better question and being willing to follow the evidence. #HealthHappensHere #SRHR #EvidenceToAction #YouthSRHR @IPPFAR @ippf @RutgersNL @NCPD_Kenya

Every stock-out is a barrier to reproductive choice. Women deserve access to their preferred family planning methods, and health providers need reliable supplies to deliver quality care. Strong supply chains and coordinated action can make this a reality. #FamilyPlanning
