Last Friday, we welcomed eight new Peace Corps Volunteers who took the oath to begin two years of service in communities across Togo. During the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Chahrazed Sioud administered the oath, drawing on her own experience as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer to share the value and impact of service. Peace Corps Togo Country Director Amy Patanasinth encouraged the new Volunteers as they began their service journey and joined a community of Americans serving alongside Togolese communities. After eight weeks of intensive training, the Volunteers will work alongside Togolese teachers to strengthen English education, joining other Peace Corps Volunteers already serving in health and agriculture. Since 1962, more than 3,100 Americans have served as Peace Corps Volunteers in Togo, sharing skills, learning from their host communities, and supporting opportunities that benefit both countries. Their service reflects the enduring friendship between the United States and Togo. #PeaceCorps #USAinTogo #Service

Our Chargé d'Affaires, Scott Renner, joined Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Floyd Green, fellow members of the diplomatic corps, and thousands of Jamaicans at the 72nd Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show in Clarendon. A highlight of the official tour was a stop at the Peace Corps Jamaica booth, where Prime Minister Holness and Minister Green greeted Peace Corps Jamaica Country Director Tammy Palmer and learned more about the work Peace Corps Volunteers are doing alongside Jamaican communities. Across the island, Volunteers partner with farmers to promote sustainable agriculture, strengthen food security, and support rural livelihoods through knowledge sharing and community-based solutions. #UsEmbassyJa #PeaceCorps #Partnership #Denbigh72

The histories of the US and the Solomon Islands have long been intertwined, from the missionaries who preached the Gospels to the Marines and soldiers who liberated Guadalcanal in WWII. It was a real honor and pleasure for me today to host the country’s dynamic new Prime Minister, Matthew Wale, and his distinguished delegation to the @StateDept. We discussed strengthening our economic and security ties, and signed an agreement aimed at redeploying the @PeaceCorps to the islands after more than a quarter century. Under @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @SecRubio, US diplomatic engagement in the Pacific Island countries is more robust than ever! 🇺🇸🤝🇸🇧

TY @LizSchrayer for the @PeaceCorps shout out! You’re absolutely right, Americans showing up and being engaged in the world matters. And our Volunteers are showing up every day in 58 countries to build global stability and peace through personal connections. #MidAtlanticSummit24
“When we don't show up it matters to our issues here at home, it matters to our our grocery prices & what happens at when we go to fill up our cars at the gas pumps. It matters to our health security." @LizSchrayer opening #midatlanticsummit24 w/ why leading globally matters here

Our @PeaceCorps volunteers represent the best of the spirit of America, and leave a lasting positive impact on the communities they serve worldwide. Last week, I was glad to welcome this extraordinary group of volunteers serving in Sri Lanka—a country I have a special bond with.
Thanks to @ChrisVanHollen for welcoming Peace Corps Volunteers who were sworn in to serve in Sri Lanka today – the first group to serve there in 25 years. It’s a remarkable moment for fostering intercultural understanding and making a sustainable impact. #PeaceCorps #SriLanka

CofC alumna Inna Artemenko ’22 was officially sworn in as a @PeaceCorps volunteer on Wednesday. She is one of 20 volunteers who will be spending the next two years in Sri Lanka. It’s the first time the Peace Corps has operated in the country since 1998. “It's truly a great privilege to be part of the first volunteer cohort returning to Sri Lanka,” Ms. Artemenko said. “The warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan people have been incredibly touching. I’m looking forward to spending the next two years building relationships within my community, exchanging cultures, and supporting students in enhancing their English conversation skills.” A native of Wellford, SC, Ms. Artemenko graduated from the College with her BA in international studies. Best of luck with your volunteer work! #CofC #CollegeofCharleston
