The Kenyan High Court has allowed SportPesa to introduce fresh evidence questioning the identity of John Friendrich, who is pursuing a KSh 109.2 million jackpot claim against the betting firm, in a ruling delivered by Justice P.M. Mulwa on June 11, 2026.
Friendrich argues SportPesa cannot dispute his identity after accepting his registration, deposits and bets for more than nine years under KYC and AML regulatory requirements, and that identity concerns emerged only after he filed his claim.
SportPesa contends evidence from the Registrar of Births raises questions about whether a birth certificate relied upon by the plaintiff belongs to him.
The court granted Friendrich an opportunity to file rebuttal evidence challenging the new material.
