Competition works. A new report found that 5G home broadband competition helped drive cable prices 17% lower—and Louisiana’s own broadband buildout offers another example of what can happen when providers compete on their merits. More in our latest:pelicanpolicy.org/technology…

This is often the challenge with overly prescriptive tech policy: the effects don’t stop at state borders. AI and data centers may not have been on Louisiana ballots last night, but decisions made in other states can still shape the innovation landscape here. teapawt.org/jrhuddles/status/21179…
Replying to @jrhuddles
The problem with this is most of these issues are interstate not intrastate. As a result, a single state law could end up regulating the whole industry nationally. Many of these proposals also raise other concerns such as issues around speech.

Timely reminder from @AdamThierer about the expectations states and communities place on data centers in return for meeting increasing demand. adamthierer.substack.com/p/d…

Ask the questions. Check the facts. Then decide.
ICYMI: Over the past few posts, we broke down why there are more and more data centers, who relies on them, who benefits, and the questions worth asking. Ask the questions. Check the facts. Learn More: pelicanpolicy.org/louisianap…

Facial recognition and AI can help police solve crimes. In Florida it's also helped put innocent people in jail. I wrote about where the line should be for @washingtonpost today: wapo.st/4sEm9Ga @JmsMadisonInst

When it comes to data centers, America needs policies driven by free markets, not bureaucratic mandates. That’s why a coalition of organizations dedicated to limited government and protecting the free market has issued a statement of principles to ensure that the United States continues to lead the world on data center infrastructure. As lawmakers race to regulate AI, US veterans are using the technology to complete actual races. Sweeping regulations threaten the very tools that are expanding independence and improving health for people across the United States. Read more: pelicanpolicy.org/technology…

"Can one state regulate speech for the other 49? We’re about to find out after a New Mexico judge on Wednesday ordered Meta to pay $25 billion for supposedly misleading the public about its privacy and content moderation policies. Its real offense is not doing more to censor speech that progressives dislike." wsj.com/opinion/new-mexico-m…

The people of Boyce, Louisiana are welcoming a data center with tremendous potential for their infrastructure. State and local leaders are working to ensure community benefits and keep the burden off of ratepayers. Awesome to watch innovation and fiscal responsibility go hand in hand. thecentersquare.com/louisian…

"Louisiana has led from Day 1 in getting federal broadband money to where it’s most needed because it has the ingredients for success: an efficient, experienced, mission-driven team making building easier. Its speed matters because its consumers are already seeing results — BEAD-funded infrastructure is already live." governing.com/infrastructure…

Great connectivity requires work behind the scenes. From Death Valley to the Superdome and beyond, reliable wireless networks keep fans connected, businesses running, and first responders in touch. Clearing regulatory roadblocks that slow growth is the next step in tackling connectivity. pelicanpolicy.org/technology…

While New Orleans leaders consider extending a data center ban, considering the nuance behind the data center discourse can help to clarify the issue. "Pro-growth states that foster responsible data center development will gain a competitive advantage. It is therefore incumbent on our nation’s leading AI companies to become fully accountable for their impact on communities, letting facts on the ground determine the fate—not exaggerated fears." realclearenergy.org/articles…

Wearable technology can do far more than count steps. "Smartwatches are detecting atrial fibrillation in people who had no idea anything was wrong, giving them a chance to prevent a stroke, rather than recover from one. Continuous glucose monitors replace guesswork with numbers that update every few minutes. And remote patient monitoring is cutting hospital readmissions for patients with conditions ranging from heart failure to lung disease." realclearpolicy.com/articles…

The University of Louisiana Lafayette is helping its students take advantage of the opportunities brought by a growing aerospace sector. New concentrations and minors focus on aerospace and space technology and will begin Fall 2027. This is great news for Acadiana. louisiana.edu/news/ul-lafaye…
