They still could have talked about him in the series.
Spoke with Teddy Atlas earlier, he said he was asked to be in the Mike Tyson documentary on Netflix, but he just didn't want to rehash that part of his life, and declined... #boxing
Tyson obviously had editorial control and whoever was the executive producer caved in. Omitting Atlas' story and Rooney's story turned the documentary into a puff piece. Also omitted was Cus' one set of rules for Tyson and one set for everyone else.
Kevin Rooney the younger is right. The subject deserved coverage in a four part series. Filmmaker relied on guys who he didn’t want to make look bad. Mine had neophytes in the corner post Rooney exit. They should do Wallace Matthews explaining how Rooney got caught up in personal politics. Btw: as Kevin makes clear, his dad deals with dementia so wasn’t a candidate for a check in from production

Looking forward to 7pm Monday October 12 when Don Majeski and I join Frank Lotierzo and Jack Hirsch on the Gloved Fist podcast (Northeast Streaming Sports). We're gonna discuss the good, the bad and the ugly of the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Don't miss it!
A standing-room-only crowd today in Southwest Philly at the funeral service for Frank "The Animal" Fletcher. And deservedly so! Nothing but love for one of boxing's most exciting performers. Rest In Peace!
Turned no one down

$5 ringside in 1969 was a real gamble for a promoter, yet you packed 260 extra bodies in anyway. Was the fire code the only limit, or did you ever turn down a big spender because the room truly had no seat left?
In 1952 he was 28-7 with 28 complete games.
Legendary @Phillies pitcher Robin Roberts was born 100 years ago today in Springfield, Ill.
The Hall of Famer used speed and control to dominate National League hitters throughout the 1950s, including a stretch of six straight 20-win seasons on his way to 286 career victories.
Early promotional gimmick...
Fifty-seven years ago (1969 for those with math problems), I promoted my first fight card. SRO crowd. We had to turn people away and that was the last time I ever did that. If I had a shoe horn, I always found space for more. We had 1,606 in a building which had 1,346 seats.
Get your wife a Prada bag. Or maybe Gucci.
I put out 3 "fires" today, one Boxing fire, one regarding a friend with another friend, & I put out one with my lovely wife. That was hard explaing to my wife why she doesn't need a Chanel purse for crazy money. Tried to tell her there's a difference between "can afford" & "don't want to spend that kind of money on a purse" She looked at me & said "you're crazy, do you know that" I replied "I might be, but that isn't the reason" 😂
Charlie "Choo Choo" Brown, of North Philadelphia, was the first man to win the IBF lightweight title when he earned a 15-round decision over Melvin Paul, of New Orleans, on January 30, 1984, at the Sands Casino in Atlantic City. Choo Choo passed away over the weekend. RIP.
I remember when top contenders boxed each other in 10-round fights for the right to get shot at the one WORLD champion. And those 10-round fights filled major arenas like the Garden, the Spectrum, the Olympic and the Forum.
I remember when champions were expected to make difficult and inconvenient title defenses versus mandatory challengers. Now, they just dump titles. The erosion of this once fine sport continues... #boxing
