A new era of mine countermeasures is here, and it’s built on rapid, unmanned response. In contested choke points, operators must be able to remotely deploy USV-launched drones to hunt and destroy mines anywhere from seabed to surface.
In May, DIU issued a Prize Challenge for small Unmanned Surface Vessel (sUSV) payloads to reacquire and neutralize mines. DIU has awarded prizes to @BeeXSG, @BlackSea_Tech, and @vatnsystems following their successful demonstrations in the MCM Modernization event.
“From a prize challenge announcement to an active Navy contract in just 92 days, we are accelerating advanced mine neutralization technology into our naval fleets with operational urgency,” said Dr. Jarred Conley, Portfolio Director, Autonomous Warfare.
This achievement arms warfighters for a more aggressive operational tempo at standoff, keeping sea lanes free and clear for safe transit.
