The single, most powerful causal influence on the religious lives of American teenagers and young adults is the religious lives of their parents. (Sociologist Christian Smith)

Jesus wasn't just a nice guy who did good in the world. You don't crucify nice guys. You crucify threats.

So after all the pre-tournament criticism, angst, and fearmongering (much done with anticipatory glee), the 2026 World Cup was a historic success. Incredible games, record crowds/viewers, and a cultural phenomenon. People were safe, entertained, and joyous. Visitors discovered, and Americans were reminded, just how wonderful our country is, all through the lens of soccer. I’m so happy for, and proud of, my country. Best World Cup ever. Thank you, America. 🇺🇸

Contemporary people tend to examine the Bible, looking for things they can’t accept; but Christians should allow the Bible to examine us, looking for things God can’t accept. Then the sweet grace offered, the beauty of his love, will mean more.

Dear Alicia Keys,
Name one right that women DON’T have in America?! I will wait.
Please know that women are FREE to join men working on offshore oil rigs, on deep sea crabbing and fishing vessels, logging trees with gigantic chainsaws, underwater welding for bridge construction and underground mining.
You and purty lady friends can also collect garbage and recycling at 6 in the morning and when you’re done with that you girls are welcome to risk your lives restoring electricity on high power lines.
These “rights” are waiting for you but you gals won’t do it, because you need men to do it. Because that is what men do: risk their lives day in and day out so you lovely girls can just pretend that all those things magically take care of themselves while you bitch and moan about perceived injustices and lack of rights.
So you go girl, Enjoy your electricity and your roads being repaired and your garbage being magically picked up every Tuesday morning and your fancy vegetables and grass fed steaks trucked into your grocery store at 5 in the morning, while you have Vietnamese ladies paint your toenails.
You can call it toxic masculinity, but you would cry your lovely fake eyelashes off when your Air Conditioning breaks down for more than 3 hours.
Your welcome!
Yours truly,
MEN

When we stop building our identity on career, or our race, or our family, or any other created thing and rest in God, the fears and drives that enslaved us recede, and we experience a new freedom and security.

Hey @grok can you find a single article ever written by any sports media member attacking a team for accepting a congratulatory call on a title from a Democrat president? Or a single article criticizing a champion team for visiting the White House when a Democrat is in office?

Because the Gospel removes both fear and pride, people can get along inside the church who could never get along outside of it.

In the first century the term Christian was a political term, not a religious one. Followers of Jesus weren’t branded Christian to differentiate them from Zeusians or Jupiterians. The term Christian was coined by pagans based on Latin political terminology. Christian was analogous to Caesariani, a follower of Caesar; Herodiani, a follower of Herod. Christians were viewed as partisans of a king. Rome had little interest in which god or gods people worshiped. Rome’s mandate: worship your gods, but obey Caesar. For Christians, this was a nonstarter. Jesus was a king who required more than worship. He required obedience. No one asked 1st century Christians if they were Christian. They were accused of it. Their behavior gave them away.

The division tearing churches, friends, and families apart isn't fueled by a lack of respect for our infallible text. Division begins with our less-than-infallible applications of the text. James instructs us to be doers, not just hearers. But do what? Turns out the answer has been prescribed and modeled for us in the New Testament. Directions are included on the label. But something else is included on the New Testament label as well: the outcome. If the outcome of our application isn’t as predicted, chances are we’re not taking as directed. When Jesus’s new-covenant teaching is applied as directed, Paul tells us what can be expected. We will do everything without grumbling or arguing. We will become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. And we will shine among them like stars in the sky (see Philippians 2:15). Being right, even believing right, doesn’t make us shine. Applying right is what makes us shine. Let’s not lose our shine.

Wrong! All of MLB has moneyball to thank for putting the proper emphasis on OBP, and OPS and not batting average and RBIs. NO team wins without quality pitching. It was quality pitching and moneyball mentality that made teams like the As way better than they would be otherwise.
