#otd in 1553. Large crowds began to appear outside of Greenwich Palace. King Edward VI had shown himself at the window on the previous day and people were in hope of seeing him again. It was to be his last public appearance.

Bit late with this but today we remember the execution of Queen Jane, Lady Jane Grey who died on this day in 1554. – at Cottingham, England
It's going to be May then!

If we fail, the history books should record that we failed, because we lacked the technology or ingenuity, but because our politicians lacked the backbone to face down vested interests and to act in the best interests of humanity.

I guess the final #COP28_UAE agreement is about as good as could be expected from this farce of having a major #climate summit hosted by a petrostate and presided over by an oil company executive.

It's sad and tragic when you look back on the Johnson government as a high point of UK climate ambition and leadership.

I once went to a lecture at Cardiff Uni on the use of ice cores to measure historic CO2 levels. The figure then was 380ppm. The phrase "the last time they were at 400, there were palm trees at the North Pole" has stayed with me.

It's important these technologies are developed, but they should come into play once annual emissions have fallen to net zero so we can turn back the dial on the amount of CO2 already in the atmosphere.

News just in! We have been announced as the winners of the Creativity and Innovation category for our creative and inspirational curriculum at the @RenLearnUK awards. This is an amazing team effort by all Prep staff and pupils. @The_IPC @iapsuk
Under this government the UK is rapidly becoming a pariah state.

Important, timely, and heartwarming intervention. The UK Conservative government is now looking increasingly as though it is swimming against the tide of history.

Keir Starmer could say right now that if he were to become PM, he would move heaven & earth to stop climate-wrecking #Rosebank oil field from going ahead. He has it within his power to help stop this climate crime - it's utterly irresponsible for him not to use it. #StopRosebank
If we weren't already crystal clear about this government's attitude towards the planet we live on.
BREAKING - #Rosebank oilfield just given go-ahead - the greatest act of environmental vandalism in my lifetime, causing emissions equal to 28 lowest income countries, busting #climate targets & doing nothing for energy security since vast majority is for export #climatecriminals
"Cynical, devastating, and wildly irresponsible." Damn right, Lord Goldsmith.

Imagine. There's an asteroid heading towards Earth that threatens to wipe out human civilisation, and we are debating whether we should do anything about it.
