I can't think of a better use of 10 minutes than reading up on the James Webb Space Telescope and getting ready for the photo drop tomorrow. Monumental day in human history. Just too damn cool.

People managers - there’s no quicker way to drive down employee productivity than putting a no-context meeting on the calendar. Never leave people guessing... Especially, in times like this.

What better way to enter the weekend than watching this video I just took of my dog singing some SRV blues. Happy Friday!

Working with a client to setup their contracting business on Jobber - goal is to streamline the entire process from quote request to invoice. I'd also like to add Zapier to automate even more. What are the highest impact Zaps/automations? Who can share any best practice here?

Lot of layoffs this week. It sucks. I’ve had to layoff 100’s of folks. I’ve also been laid off. Here’s 5 suggestions that nobody asked for on laying people off: 1. If you’re in the position of needing to layoff people, it’s likely that something went wrong with YOUR strategy

about you or your feelings in any way. 4. Fight like hell to give as much severance, resources, and help to anyone impacted. A. Because it’s the right thing to do. B. Because being stingy is horrible for your longterm culture and brand. 5. Don’t let it happen again…

do everything in your power to do it once and not do it again. Multiple rounds of layoffs are detrimental for company performance, culture, and trust in leadership. Learn from your mistakes and take the time to plan your decision.

Want to piss off your boss, real fast? Go around them to their boss with complaints/feedback. Seen this many times, from both sides. If you're going to do it, think hard about why, what you want to accomplish, and prepare for some serious confrontation with your direct boss...

My newest consulting project has a pretty cool backstory. Six mo ago I had signed LOI with a buyer (~$2mm home services) who eventually decided not to sell. Last week he reached out & said, “I liked your plan for growth- help me do that?” We kick off the engagement tomorrow…

In Oct. @aebridgeman asked me for a niche topic on hiring for @ForTheOperators. I went with the importance of a candidates family/friends in the hiring process as it’s rarely discussed. The handbook is great! All the other articles are way better so I’m honored to be included.

What are all the levers a city has in their control (Can’t change weather, location, etc) to improve desirability over the next 15 years? My naive opinion - every mayor should be optimizing their city for walkability and planting tons of trees ASAP.

At a gym that has a punching bag. Why is there a masculine urge that causes 90% of men walking past to hit it or kick it with approx 25% of force as if it was a “practice” punch/kick?

Curious how many people work with an executive or business coach? If so, what’s been the most impactful part of that relationship?

Was just informed that you should sign up for daycare 6 mo before you start trying for kids!? This is in Denver, but I don’t think nyc was any better. And I know folks in other cities having similar issues. Anyone in twittersphere working on this?

On most teams, there's an individual who plays an outsized role in the success of that org. Everyone goes to them for answers even though they're often layered down in org. with an unassuming title. I just identified that person at a company I'm consulting for and I'm so stoked.

Also, whether buying or joining a new company - find that person ASAP, invest in her, and do everything you can do help her grow!
