George Lucas could have asked Fox for $1 million to make Star Wars. He took $125,000 and asked for the sequel and merchandising rights instead. Fox let him have both. By his own account, the studio thought it was giving away half of nothing. Everyone calls that contract genius. He says he was only protecting himself. He had just made American Graffiti and was the hottest director in Hollywood. Fox was on the ropes and sure he would ask for a million, which no director had ever been paid. He signed the memo for his salary. Everything it did not mention stayed open. Licensing barely existed. A toy takes a year or two to make, and a movie is gone in 6 weeks, so no studio wanted it. In the video below, he says it himself. Watch the part about the t-shirts and posters. "Everybody thought I was really brilliant but I was really just protecting myself." He had already written three movies. If the first flopped, Fox would own the rights and could tell him he could not make the rest. It did not flop. He went to a toy company, helped them build little action figures, and the money came from there. "Movies don't make money. I got news for you." Decades later he sold Lucasfilm to Disney for about $4 billion. The studio kept the movie. He kept everything that came after it. Was Fox cheated, or did it sell what it honestly called worthless?

For as long as I can recall, but definitely for at least the past two years, you can’t have a conversation about Lionsgate without Legendary coming up, and vice versa. Lordo notes that the current Legendary leadership, including CEO Josh Grode, was “heavily involved” with Summit Entertainment when Lionsgate bought it for more than $400 million back in 2012, capitalizing on the momentum of the Twilight franchise. - Ashley Cullins, July 21, 2026

It’s just so obvious.
YouTube now accounts for twice as much TV viewing in the US as Netflix.

Going into the Black Hills to say goodbye to someone you love is a pretty grim starting point for ‘BLAIR WITCH.’ If this reported premise holds, that family’s grief could make the woods even more terrifying.

It’s the right question. Look – do we have scale? We have scale. We have market share in both television and feature films. I wish I could tell you there’s a lot of stuff to buy. We picked off eOne, and that turned out to be a great acquisition. There’s not a lot to buy. Not a lot of libraries to buy. But are we big enough to stay as a stand-alone company? Sure. We’re making a lot of money. And we will continue to make a lot of money over the next few years, and de-lever. Do I think that the landscape is interesting for a lot of different things? Yeah. Because everybody has the same issue, which is – you want to show growth. And you only have two ways to show growth, which is organically – which is really hard to do,  or inorganically – which is doing deals. So I think we’re an interesting “strategic partner” for a variety of places. If you said – well who would they be? I don’t have a crystal ball and I wouldn’t tell you if we were in the middle of doing a deal. But I’ll tell you that private equity…a lot of money interested in doing certain things…some press about that about a company backed by a private equity company…but do I think that’s the right strategic partner? Maybe. But do I think that somebody that’s got strategic synergies – both cost and revenue synergy – yes, there’s a tremendous amount of synergies with a few players that are out there. And then you’ve got some of these wild-cards…you look at some of these AI companies, with staggering valuations but growth rates that are just incredible.

All this NBCU talk is cute and all, but Brian Roberts doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want to do. And that's it and that's all.
