This is simply an extraordinary study. Researchers gave $7,500 (CAD) to homeless people in Vancouver. The result? The program *saved* money. It helped many of them to move into housing faster, which saved the shelter system $8,277 per person. 🧵👇

Amazing analysis from @teamtrace using real data over time regarding use of AR 15's for self defense. It hardly happens. You know what does? Mass shootings killing a lot of people because of this lie that is causing this weapon to flood our streets. thetrace.org/2023/08/ar15-ri…

This is why, whether we're WGA members or not, this strike is huge for authors. We should support it even if it DIDN'T affect us because Always Be On The Side of Labor is a good rule, but this fight is our fight, too, make no mistake.
I asked my entertainment attorney, "If someone makes a movie/show about one of my books and then shelves it, can I ever get my rights back?" and the answer was NO. Not only are they shelving these things, they're making it so that no one else can ever make them. Ever.

Spoken like someone who's never had to eat out of a dumpster, or go to school without deodorant so their baby sister could have her asthma meds.
MF’er paid eight dollars to tweet this.

"Live streamers should strike in solidarity with actors" is such a dumb take. Next thing you'll be telling me people think writers should stop writing books in solidarity with screenwriters... ... I'm being told people are saying that too 🙄😩 Neither of these are scabbing FFS

This thread is a brisk accounting of what a fucking disgrace Brexit is from a small press perspective
Time is money. If it takes twice as long to do something you earn half as much. This is the brutal fact at the heart of Brexit. Let’s "Brexit" a £12.99 paperback, blow by blow, and see what difference leaving the single market has made.

Gotta respect Larian for announcing that they are gonna be there for the gay furry community :D It's taken a while but BG3 is coming together nicely

This was one of my problems with the big suit against visual AI—like, there are laws that NEED to be made, but they need to be made based on actual understanding of what is happening. Just cheering for anybody attacking the perceived enemy gets you crap law.

This seems like more of a scare tactic than something that's going to restrict your legal options. And could potentially help your lawyer if it does go to court. Not sure about the opt out process, feels like it could easily end up being a 'trouble maker' list for Etsy to use

I have a piece in The NYT this morning. A Minneapolis suburb hired a Black chief and assistant chief. Over half the department quit. Yet the world didn’t end. If cops would rather quit than respect the people they serve, maybe it’s okay to let them go. nytimes.com/2023/07/02/opini…
