The Elkhorn Suburban Fire District #2 has announced that they will be reinstating fire/EMS operations on January 1st, 2028. This decision comes after nearly 2 years of negotiations did not end in an agreement with the City of Omaha. The Omaha Fire Department currently provides fire protection and ALS medical transport to the district under a contracted agreement. That agreement expires December 31st, 2027 and has been in place for 9 years. The Elkhorn Suburban Fire District will now begin the process of acquiring apparatus, hiring personnel, and taking over operations when the current agreement expires. We have reached out to the Omaha Fire Department for a comment on what this means for OFD stations 71, 77, and the personnel assigned to those stations that currently cover Elkhorn. We will provide an update when we receive a response.

🎥 We recently had the chance to sit down with OPD Officer Keele and talk about K9 Kano. Not just the work he does, but who he is. We talked about Kano’s training, his personality, what he’s like when he’s off duty, and what it really takes to build the kind of trust that exists between a K9 and handler.

No more Cox going down. No more Cox struggling to stay up. No more Cox outages lasting all night. No more asking when Cox will be back up. We had a long, hard run. Spectrum just doesn’t hit it the same. #OmahaScanner
