In 1991, Michael J. Deas approached Jennifer Joseph with an offer to serve as the live model for the new Torch Lady logo of Columbia Pictures. Deas, renowned for his photorealistic artwork, aimed to create a timeless representation with strong features, and Joseph perfectly fit the desired criteria. The photo shoot took place in Deas' New Orleans studio, with photographer Kathy Anderson assisting. Deas captured Joseph's likeness during the session, which he then translated into a painting, ultimately becoming the new Torch Lady. Deas' updated design portrayed a three-dimensional figure with intricate details on her robe and torch, encircled by a radiant light. Since its introduction in 1993, the new Torch Lady has undergone minimal changes and continues to stand as a symbol of Columbia Pictures' rich history in the entertainment industry. Joseph had no inkling that her image would gain such widespread recognition, yet her contribution to the project played a pivotal role in crafting the iconic logo we know today.
