Pope Leo: "Today we celebrate
all the saints: those whom the Church has recognized as such as well as the countless others who have
not been formally recognized but are known to God. As today’s Gospel reminds us they are poor in spirit, yet rich in God’s love. Their faces are streaked with tears, yet they find
consolation in prayer. They are meek in the face of violence and rewarded by the Father. They
hunger for justice, yet are filled in the depths of their consciences. They are ready to forgive and
embraced by mercy. They are disarmed in heart, yet protected by God. They are peacemakers,
called by name by God. They are persecuted and insulted, yet strong in faith and charity."
Saint Mother Teresa did not proselytize. She served the poorest of the poor, seeing Jesus in each of them, no matter their religious profession, in hopes that they might see Jesus in her and her sisters.
Context. He's speaking of the Church in Algeria where the population is 99% Muslim. If you have any confusion about that environment, the movie *Of Gods and Men* (2010) might be a good place to begin one's reflection.
LATEST: Cardinal Vesco says the Catholic Church is “not there to convert”
The Archbishop of Algiers said: “We are the Church of this people. Not a proselytising Church, not a Church that is there to convert, but a Church that aspires to be one of the components of this people.”
He called proselytism “poison” because it treats another person’s religion as false, and argued Christians should choose fraternity over seeing themselves as a “besieged fortress.”

Add to this reflection on France from @wjmcgurn the incredible turnout for Pope Leo's recent visit. Does France get to the point where they say, "We want God"?

“Brothers and sisters, do not be afraid to welcome Christ and accept his power. Help the Supreme Pontiff and all those who wish to serve Christ and with Christ’s power to serve the human person and the whole human race. Be not afraid. Open, I say open wide the doors to Christ.” -Pope St. John Paul II
Reading this man's words, hearing his voice, always amazing.
Happy feast of St. John Paul II.
The feast of St. John Paul II is celebrated on October 22 because it marks the anniversary of the inauguration of his pontificate in 1978.
On October 22, 1978, he celebrated the Mass inaugurating his ministry as Pope, delivering his famous appeal to the world:
“Be not afraid! Open wide the doors for Christ!”
He was elected Pope on October 16, 1978, but the Church chose October 22 as his liturgical memorial to commemorate the beginning of his papal ministry.
St. John Paul II was canonized by Pope Francis on April 27, 2014, Divine Mercy Sunday.
🙏 October 22 is therefore a day to remember his extraordinary pontificate and his call to the world to open its heart to Christ.
Heard from BlackRock today that they've decided to drop their SPLC filter. Very grateful to the company for this ongoing collaborative conversation. Read more here -

Here's more on the FedEx shareholder resolution that we filed, asking FedEx to generate a report analyzing its risk under the Comstock Act since it ships mifepristone, an abortifacient.
Thank you, @PiadeSolenni and @FWdiocese for your help with my latest story, in which Bishop Michael Olson said he hopes to further the culture of life by urging @FedEx to consider whether it's violating federal law by mailing abortion pills to pro-life states: ewtnnews.com/world/us/fort-w…
Spot on. I've seen this happen several times. Bishop Varden's comments on the divorced (not annulled) and remarried are really helpful.
Bishop Varden comments on his time at the Amoris Laetitia conference & possibility of Holy Communion for divorced/re-married:
“A principal pastoral concern in such situations is to recall the bigger picture, letting sufferers discover the potentially productive sense of their troubles, which may serve to lessen selfishness and purify love. Marriage, no less than monastic life, is a school of conversion.
Concerning ‘irregular’ relationships, I find our Catholic communities normally embrace these maturely and well. It can be liberating for persons in such situations to be in a setting where their ‘irregularity’ is acknowledged, not relativised; and where they are yet embraced with Christian friendship, enabled to contribute to the community.
I think of the example of many faithful people I know who, Sunday after Sunday, come up for a blessing at the time of Communion, knowing they cannot accede to the sacrament, yet entrusting themselves to God’s mercy at work in the Church.
Their example of fidelity does much to build up the Christian community. It testifies to the vital realism of the sacrament and to the virtue of hope. Sacramental exile sustained over time can prepare a joyful homecoming.
Christ gave us his rigorous commandments to educate us and to liberate us from ourselves, ‘that we might live no longer for ourselves but for him who died and rose again for us’ (Fourth Eucharistic Prayer). His intention is to make us grow in stature into new, divinised life.
That life must always be the aim we propose to people, not merely human affirmation — though we all need a bit of that as well.”

A photograph of Pope Leo XIV blessing Marie-Garance, a 10-year-old girl in a blue dress who has multiple disabilities, went viral after the pope encountered her in Paris Sept. 26.
Agence France Press photographer Ludovic Marin captured the moment the pope leaned toward Marie-Garance, took her hand and met her eyes. Her adoptive mother, Clotilde Noël, told OSV News the blessing represented vulnerable people who are often set aside because they are different.
“I agreed to share my story because, for me, these blessings went far beyond them and our family,” Noël told OSV News.
“Marie-Garance was carried into the pope’s arms and looked at him with trust and a sense of surrender,” she said. “Carried by others, she represented that entire segment of humanity that is so often set aside because it is different, and particularly vulnerable.”
Today, Clotilde and her husband, Nicolas, have 10 children, four of whom they have adopted — all their nonbiological children have disabilities.

Thank you for your leadership @AGToddRokita. I just presented a proposal on this to the @FedEx shareholder meeting. Interestingly, this was the only proposal to which they responded. Grateful to @ADFLegal for their support. TY @BpOlsonFW for sponsoring the resolution.
FedEx and UPS maintain explicit restrictions on the shipment of numerous items that are illegal under federal or state law. It is indefensible that these companies do not have similar restrictions on the dangerous abortion drug mifepristone, which is illegal to ship under Indiana law, federal law, and the laws of many other states.
This is not an ordinary pharmaceutical. The drug is used to end the lives of the most vulnerable among us, the unborn. Allowing it to be shipped here actively undermines the pro-life laws we have enacted and fought so hard to uphold.
FedEx and UPS should act immediately to adopt and enforce clear, transparent shipping prohibitions on mifepristone.

Yet, the AI companies say that they need to be regulated, as if they cannot regulate themselves.
Anthopic was able to say no to the US govt, but not to China & others?
These are brilliant people capable of good, brilliant solutions.
Makes the conspiracy theories seem true.
We now reached the point where more than half of AI exploits we hear about are destructive, dysfunctional and entropy-generating
