Ian Roper was born on this day, 20th June, so time to ressurrect this classic song - we all dream of a team of Ian Ropers, team of Ian Ropers.....
Magnus Douglas Nicholson was born on this day, 18th June, 1871. He played for Oswestry, Bedford, West Brown, Crouch End, Luton Town and helped launch the game in Austria. Thanks to Bedford Old Eagle for his research. thestrawplaiters.com/n-to-p/…
Some photos not seen (that I know of) for over 120 years. QPR 1 Luton Town 2 played on the 11th March 1905 at Park Royal in Southern League Division One. See the match report at hattersheritage.co.uk/matche… I'm sure these photos will be uploaded shortly.

Just for fun, an anthem loosely based on the tune popular after the First World War - "We're a Jolly Lot of Fellows.."
🎵For we come from Luton Town,
where they burnt the Town Hall down🎵

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Though the work of Hatters Heritage is carried out entirely by volunteers we are always grateful for any help to cover the cost of running the charity
We have recently launched a new donation page for those who would like to help

One of the Lomax brothers - Ernest Herbert - was born OTD in 1866.
E.H. seconded the motion put by Gilbert Small to form a Luton Town Club.
His story is covered on the Straw Plaiters website.

I was asked to look at the history of Power Court prior to the power station and houses to see if football was ever played there. 1842 Tithe map attached. Here's a link to my research on my website. thestrawplaiters.com/power-c…

'Several thousand' Lutonians make the trip to Watford and are rewarded with 4-0 win. It's Town's first ever victory at Vicarage Road, and the first at Watford since 1915. The great Andy Rennie scores a hat-trick.

On this day in 1897 (11th September) Luton Town's new ground was opened in Dunstable Road. A photographer climbed a chimney which was being built on the site of the old Dallow Lane ground to take a snap of the match action.
In December 1891, LTFC bought their first alternate shirts - white. Since then white has always been the 1st, 2nd or 3rd choice shirt. The green LTFC 3rd shirt announced today breaks that tradition.

What a most splendidly sunny start to a Friday morning - three hours of re-writes and edits done in the company of Gordon and Ron 🎩⚽️📚
‘The Gordon Turner Story’ published late summer.
Fifteen years at @LutonTown in the 1950’s through to the mid 60s saw so much social change

Remembering our greatest ever goalscorer, Gordon Turner, on what would have been his 95th birthday.
His 276 goals for the club is a record that will very likely never be broken.
