shorturl.at/IGkyb Recent discussions about lowering Nepal's legal marriage age from 20 to 18 have raised significant concerns regarding the potential increase in child marriages. Nepal already has the third-highest rate of child marriage in South Asia, with 37% of women aged 20-24 married before 18 and 10% before 15. Lowering the legal age could exacerbate this issue, undermining efforts to protect girls' rights and futures. At Plan International Nepal, we are dedicated to ending child, early, and forced marriages through programs like 'Child Not Bride' and 'Girls Standing Strong.' These initiatives empower adolescents with education, life skills, and economic opportunities, enabling them to make informed decisions about their futures. We urge policymakers to consider the profound implications of lowering the marriage age and to prioritize the well-being and rights of Nepal's girls. Together, we can work towards a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive, free from the constraints of early marriage. We’re so proud to see our work—and the incredible voices of girls and young women in Nepal—featured in this powerful Al Jazeera article on child marriage. #EndChildMarriage #ChildnotBride #planinternationalnepal

🌏 Young people are not waiting for change. We are creating it. At #BKKCAW2026, Swostika, a member of Plan International Nepal’s Youth Advisory Council, shared #UniteForResilience, a campaign co-designed by young people to advance climate action and resilience. Her message was clear: climate action cannot be inclusive unless young people, especially those most affected by climate change, have the power to shape the decisions that affect their lives. Climate justice is not charity. It is a right. From Nepal to Bangkok, young people are raising their voices, sharing solutions and demanding a future they can help shape. #YouthClimateAction #ClimateJustice #YouthLeadership #BKKCAW2026
