In this #LamontVoices moment, Emily Klein and Terry Plank reflect on arriving at @LamontEarth as graduate students just after the plate tectonics revolution, and being shaped by a culture that encouraged tackling the biggest scientific questions.
We at @umdgeology @UMDscience are looking for a new colleague! Please consider applying here: umd.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/UM…

#ScientistsForHarris👇 Many scientists are affected by our immigration laws and many international conferences were moved out of the US due to issues with visas during the Trump administration
I cannot vote as a permanent resident, and so my fate and that of my family are dependent on all of you who can vote. The Trump years were chaotic and stressful for those of us on temporary student/work visas. I don't want that to happen again
Tomorrow, please vote #HarrisWalz
Silvia's paper about Cerro Machin volcano is now out in JPet! Cerro Machin is among the most water-rich volcanic systems in the world. We developed a new way of using water in plagioclase crystals to estimate water in pre-eruptive magma. Congratulations @SilviaCastillaM! 🌋
I was happy to share work by @SilviaCastillaM at this Science on Tap talk! 🌋
To improve volcanic forecast accuracy, we need to understand the mechanisms of eruptions.
In @umdgeology Assistant Professor Megan Newcombe's Science on Tap lecture, she explained how her lab studies volcanic ash to understand "the guts" of volcanoes. go.umd.edu/volcanism
