One of the key ways to improve as a controller player is learning to aim without aim assist.
.@RavenSoftware Every time I see people discussing Warzone, I see people asking for BR Duos. Hope to see the mode back next week. Cheers!
.@InfinityWard Please increase the range for proximity chat in DMZ.
DMZ has been a ton of fun so far, but solos needs more players. Most raids the map feels completely dead. I have traversed 1000m on foot at times with Lieutenant tags and not even been shot at. @InfinityWard
The other thing I noticed is people aren't really using prox chat.
I'm actually finding solos matches again in under a minute. Heck yeah. @RavenSoftware
Landing at Superstore with rewarding loot and a buy station out front feels incredible. Thank you. @RavenSoftware
Second solo nuke today (one on each map)! I haven't been grinding for them lately but want to get some more before MW4.
.@RavenSoftware These drone boxes and buys might be the single worst update in Warzone history.
.@CallofDutyCM @RavenSoftware There’s been little to no communication about the modes in Warzone (namely standard BR). I know more and more players that are leaving because they don’t have access to solos/duos, and the ones that are playing are actively losing interest because they want to play with their friends and not random players that don’t use their mics. Any updates that can be shared?
My initial thoughts after trying Black Ops Royale... I'll start by saying it will be nice to see how this plays on different squad sizes - particularly solos in my case.
Good:
- Enjoyed Avalon. The colors are fresh, and I generally felt like visibility in the game was far better than Verdansk (besides one instance which I address below).
- Refreshing that people don't have perma-UAV. Fights felt more organic.
- Not getting nuked by zero recoil, high bullet velocity ARs across the map allows for different styles of fights. Takes some getting used to, but I think this could potentially be a positive skill gap. I think casual players will struggle with this greatly.
- Very few killstreaks is a nice relief for the ears. I will say the killstreaks that are in the game should just not exist. Very corny streaks - especially the HKDs.
Tweak:
- Need more loot on the ground. Will be interesting to see how this feels in solos, but it felt like someone on the team was always stuck with gray guns when someone else randomly upgraded to purple or orange right away.
- Feels bad to run into a room with 2-3 weapon upgrades but not have a gun to upgrade.
- Maybe you can have a custom optic that is determined on the menu? The optics (and particularly the reticles) are mostly bad, and it feels even worse when an SMG build has an ACOG scope. The gun builds did feel better overall than I was expecting, but there's still opportunity for improvement.
- There were times/places I felt audio wasn't great, but this is a common problem in standard BR as well.
- Does the red gas zombies event need to be in every game? As opposed to feeling like a special loot opportunity, it feels obligatory if you want to win.
- Talking out loud, but if the activities and such aren't revealed in the plane, should the circle even be visible from the plane? This would introduce a good amount of RNG if you happen to be leagues from the zone, but better general loot availability might help reduce the downsides of that RNG.
- The lobbies feel pretty empty with 100 players.
- Perhaps more ziplines for crossing certain areas of water?
Bad:
- Doesn't feel like you have control over your weapon build. Even if you find one of your favorite weapons, it's just RNG if you get the archetype you like. Maybe when you get the gun you can have control of the archetype?
- Health feels bad to me when it's RNG. I felt this way with Warzone 2.0 as well. I wouldn't mind something like a helmet that protects from a sniper shot. If the TTK is slower across the board, that'd be great, but I feel everyone should have the same health unless there's extreme rarity to a special plate vest that spawns once per game. Even then, I'd lean on people having the same amount of health.
- Why is dust spraying everywhere when bullets hit the ground? This is insanely bad for visibility and just adds unnecessary visual noise.
- Same problem as Verdansk had S1 and S2... Ground loot disparity feels bad. Sometimes you find a launcher, a marksman rifle, a pistol, and then a shotgun before you find an AR/SMG. I will say the LMGs felt more viable in this mode compared to standard BR.
- Thinking of the average player that will try this mode... Grapple hooks enable a team of four coordinated players to eviscerate a team of noobs on rooftops. I'm saying this as someone who was the benefactor of this equipment. It feels corny to just run straight through a team of casuals with grapple hooks.
Other:
- Not sure how to feel about perks. I either consumed perks when I found them, or I got into a fight and wasn't thinking mid-fight to activate perks when I'm prioritizing plating and/or reloading. This is certainly an area where there could be a good skill gap for competitive play, but I think the vast majority of players will find it extremely unnatural to consume perks after having stowed them. I see the vast majority of players having far more to worry about than managing perks.
I still feel the average Call of Duty player will prefer standard BR over Black Ops Royale. Standard BR plays more casually and is easier to get friends back in the fight while also giving people the same customization over their weapons that they know and love from Call of Duty multiplayer.
I'm definitely excited to try standard BR solos on Avalon.
