Residual force enhancement (rFE) is one of muscle physiology's most fascinating phenomena.
It's observed from single sarcomeres all the way to humans.
Yet at the joint level, many people appear to have no rFE at all.
Why? 🧵

This shifts where we should look next.
Rather than asking why some muscles don't generate rFE...
...we should ask why the nervous system and musculoskeletal system fail to fully express an intrinsic mechanical property of muscle.
