My fellow tactical medical folks: What's your opinion on a tourniquet for a "graze" flesh wound. I get heat of the moment and the TQ being the tool the Officer had nearby but would bulk gauze or hemostatic gauze direct pressure be effective?
San Antonio Officers return 🔥 and stop the threat. One officer is grazed but will recover. Suspect booked.

I know Greg and we live fairly close, different but similar neighborhoods. My kids have friends in his neighborhood and we've been in the park he mentions. This is from a multi-black belt, ex cop, national level defensive trainer that deadlifts like 600# and is shaped like a guerilla. I'll be watching for this dude he encountered too... patreon.com/GregEllifritz/po…

Chris is spot on. For all of us that carry a weapon daily for work and/or personal/family security. Know the laws, know your local prosecutorial tendencies and position yourself for what comes afterward, even if you "do it right". You can't prevent what happened to Sgt. Perry, but you can do everything you can to position yourself as the "good guy" should the government decide they are coming after you. There are, in Texas and in most states, protections against civil liability for defense (despite what the handgun insurance folks say) but having educated yourselves and knowing of a good defense attorney is super helpful. Some of the new programs for legal coverage are comforting as that is, aside from losing one's job, the biggest expenses, again, even if you do it all right. Voting well helps for the future of this problem but here we are for now...
If three years of following the Daniel Perry trials taught anything, it’s this: Use deadly force and your life is permanently altered. Guilty or innocent, justified or not, the act itself rewrites everything that comes after, for you and everyone else involved. Obviously do what you have to, to protect yourself. But understand, it is no small act.

"Hey, why do you always carry a gun when you are out for a fun day with your family?". Because nobody will be there in time, it's up to me.

Hey - here is another good example when people without a defensive synapse in their heads asks "why?".

One more tidbit for the day: Are ya'll (meaning fellow Texans) following the 5th Circuit case Ziegenfuss v. Martin? Tx DPS Director admitted 50%, racetrack and sporting event carry prohibitions are in-fact unconstitutional. Certain sections of "inherently restricted" PC 46.03 code could be overturned. Stay tuned. PC 46.03(a)(4), (a)(7), and (a)(8) are in trouble... #NotLegalAdvice

Quick weekend reading for my Texas gun folks. Some folks choose to carry everywhere and that's a choice. Others may be more rule followers. For those, here's a quick reference. Know which ones apply to you - there is a felony or two hiding in these signs for armed civilians.

Confession time. I have a gun in a biometric box by my bed. I have kids so, that's necessary. It is time to get a new one. This one, designed by a "tactical genius" requires me to lick my fingertip or the sensor won't work, then it BEEP!, KluChunk! as it springs open. Not stealthy at all. What is the newer alternative that is quick and quiet? Single full size w/RDS and WML pistol sized.

If you MUST shoot: Some will say "I'd just shoot them in the leg...". Texas law doesn't recognize a 'wounding' shot. Under PC 9.01(3), force intended or known to be capable of causing death or serious injury is deadly force, and the femoral artery is in the leg. If deadly force isn't justified, don't shoot. If it is, aim for center mass, where you have the highest likelihood of a effective hit. #NotLegalAdvice

Good way to look at zero. Thanks @price_dominie for the clear explanation. Yea, there are details on bullet weight, velocity/barrel length so yea, there is more to it, but this will get you close enough... Enjoy.
Ok, let’s talk about a shooting concept that applies to both hunting and how your red dot sight works; Danger Space. Danger-space is the effective strike zone that you bullet travels through on its way to the target. Even if you misjudge the distance, you’re still mathematically guaranteed to hit. As highlighted in the table below, if you dialed or held UP 2 MOA and shot at a deer and missed because you over judged the distance, you will still hit. Understanding ballistics should give you more confidence in taking your opportunity at that big buck, even though you’re not certain if it’s 175m or 210m. Either way, you will drop him. The flight of the bullet only rises 4.5”↕️ with 6.5 Creed (example in the chart) A deers vitals are appropriately 8”-10”. A red dot sight on a rifle with a 200m zero uses this exact same principle to mathematically Danger-Space a guaranteed hit in the vital zone instead of focusing on pinpoint precision. This is the reason that for both CQB purposes and hunting with a red dot sight (RDS), I would recommend a 200m zero. If you are using a common AR-15 chambered in 5.56mm, you can simply zero your RDS at 50m/ yards (second pic). This will give you a perfect hit at 200m/ yards. 100m will be about 1.5” high and 300m it’s going to be a bit low. For other calibers, you’ll need to chart the rounds trajectory and figure out what zeroing distance exactly matches on its way to 200m. There will be an exact number where the rising branch and falling branch (with target at 200m) correspond.

Oh hey! I just got a text message from the "JD Vance" from an unknown number! Apparently, he needs me to chip in a few dollars. Wants me to click on a link in the text. Hmmm.... I don't think it's really him.... Trust issues.

After our little group's discussion around self-defense in the Austin area - this is a bit of good news. Hope they leave Daniel alone now... Garza can't even do a good job of abusing his prosecutorial powers. Fail. At least this time it is a fail in the right direction. Congratulations Daniel.
An Austin/Travis County Jury has voted to not convict Daniel Perry. This man was the victim of violence by BLM protesters and protected himself but the Progressive Dipshit Prosecutors tried to jail him and failed. Congrats to attorney @DouglasOConnell for delivering justice.

All my fellow nerds, security enjoyers see the NSA-CISA alert yesterday morning? Glasswing/Mythos and other open source AI's are radically accelerating vulnerability discovery and exploitation. Gonna be an interesting year...
