Saturday came with a beautiful surprise! A fan walked in with a drawing of @Brianclkd and me, inspired by a recent podcast we did together, where he had spotted us. Honestly, moments like these remind you that sometimes, what you do leaves a bigger impression on someone than you may ever realise. Timing Belt vs Timing Chain, Which One Is Better? Both perform the same job of synchronising the engine’s crankshaft and camshaft, but they differ in construction and maintenance. A timing belt is made of reinforced rubber and usually requires replacement at the manufacturer’s recommended intervals, while a timing chain is made of metal and generally lasts longer. However, chains can stretch, wear and develop tensioner or guide problems over time. Warning signs may include unusual rattling, starting difficulties or engine performance issues, although some faults show no obvious symptoms. If either fails, the engine can suffer serious damage, depending on its design. The bottom line? Neither is automatically better; proper maintenance and following your engine’s specific service requirements are what matter most.

Why a turbocharger failure is not always just a turbo problem. By this I mean, when a turbocharger fails, replacing it without investigating the original cause can lead to another expensive repair. Turbochargers depend on correct lubrication, clean oil supply, suitable operating conditions and proper boost control. Oil starvation, restricted oil passages, excessive crankcase pressure, intake leaks or problems with the engine itself may contribute to failure. The turbocharger should therefore be inspected alongside the systems that support it.
