Musawo I for one was discharged with my 7 months old and guided by badawo not to shower then but instead wipe them with a wet small towel for 3 months. Then did kangaroo method a lot esp on cold days & used to express breast milk. My baby was so tiny & delicate to lie in a basin

Hey @PretermsUg, Iโd like your thoughts on this.
I recently followed up with a mother whom we delivered at 33 weeks due to an obstetric emergency. The baby was born stable, spent a few days in NICU before being discharged. When I called to check on them and remind her of the follow up clinic, she told me she hadnโt bathed the baby yet. She said she was waiting until the EDD because she believes preterm babies should not be bathed until their due date which would mean in this case no bath for about six to seven weeks.
Do you come across beliefs like this often? We clearly still need a lot of sensitization around preterm care. Thank you for the important work you do for our premies.

๐ SEPTEMBER IS PREMATURE BABIES AWARENESS MONTH ๐
Some babies enter this world before they are readyโฆ and suddenly, their parents find themselves learning a language they never knew they would need โ NICU, incubators, feeding tubes, oxygen, monitors, and numbers they pray will keep moving in the right direction.
A premature baby may be tiny enough to fit in the palm of your hand, but the strength they carry is enormous. ๐ฅบ๐
And behind every tiny fighter is a mother or father fighting too โ sitting beside an incubator, counting every gram gained, celebrating every little milestone, and going home with empty arms while their baby remains in the hospital.
To every parent of a premature baby: I see you. I hear you. You are not alone. ๐
This month, letโs remember the babies who fought their way into this world, the ones still fighting, and the precious ones we lost along the way.
Letโs support NICU families.
Letโs feed hope.
Letโs speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Letโs remind every parent that their babyโs life matters.
Tiny babies. Mighty fighters. Infinite hope. ๐ @PretermsUG

At the HEROES4GTA close-out event in Bukiende, Mbale District, Dr. Richard Mugahi, Commissioner for Reproductive and Child Health at the @MinofHealthUG , reflected on the importance of investing in young people as a foundation for Ugandaโs future.
Speaking as Chief Guest, Dr. Mugahi expressed appreciation to the Embassies of the @NLinUganda and @IcelandinUganda for their support to the programme and to the many partners who have contributed to improving SRHR services and community wellbeing.
He emphasised that the value of HEROES extends beyond the achievements recorded over the past six years. For him, the programme demonstrates what can happen when investment in young people is treated as an investment in the countryโs future.
โOur biggest resource as a country is the young population.โ
Dr. Mugahi called for continued investment in skills, knowledge and opportunities that can help young people become productive members of society.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration across government sectors, particularly health, education and gender, in building the human capital needed for Ugandaโs development.
The Commissioner noted that the progress made through HEROES offers an important lesson: transforming communities is essential to transforming the country.
As the programme closes, he urged leaders and partners to continue building on the gains made, ensuring that young people have the knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to shape Ugandaโs future.
Investing in young people is investing in the future of Uganda.
