Might fuck around and underestimate the value of sound in cinema later

watching The Act of Killing, all these guys talk about killing people the way Sidney Lumet writes about making movies. "when you're gonna kill someone, it's good to wear to thick pants"

31. Research. Disappointing in that it didn’t really live up to the subtitle. Doesnt touch on things like tiktok clips leading to more crowd work or even the podcast boom. Moreso a look at how humour is shared online than how it was changed imho. Memetic shift stuff was good.

32. Billed as Green’s first non YA novel but really that’s a useless distinction. The characters are early 20s instead of late teens but Green’s writing hasn’t matured alongside them. Interesting ideas in here about trauma but the story is far too weak.

The lettuce stuff in East of Eden, what’s going on there? What does it mean that Cathy and Adam both independently try to preserve vegetables? Why is Adam sending something back to the east coast? Why is he so stricken by the mastodon?

I kinda think there’s really not all that much to it. People preserved food back then, refrigeration was as big a technological revolution as the automobile, where else are you gonna export food to? But it does feel meaningful somehow.

Also, there was no shortage of harebrained schemes Adam could have been drawn into. It’s almost cruel of Steinbeck, doing so from his privileged position in the future, to curse him with a perfectly adequate fascination, one that could have richly rewarded a more fortunate man.

The iPhone Duo has the right idea with the glossy outer screen and the matte inner screen. It’s just missing one component, an e-ink rear screen.
