I've said it before, but Open Zone Sonic from Frontiers is WAY more enjoyable and fun than Shadow's control in Generations. I feel like whenever people compare the controls of both games, it's always frontiers cyberspace vs shadow gens levels, but never really open zone Sonic vs Gens Shadow.
Open Zone Sonic clears so hard. Sonic has so much control like the adventure games, but can move VERY fast, and if I'm not wrong, there was a speed test done and Frontiers Sonic with the power boost is actually FASTER than Forces and Colors Sonic. But the fact he can retain so much control in a 360 direction is pretty crazy.
I haven't even mentioned the spindash, the stomp+spindash combos to create your own pseudo/near instant drop dash, homing dash, and all these techniques you can do in Frontiers open zone.

I think nearly every aspect of this game is painfully mediocre...except for one.
Forces has very good flow in its cutscenes. The story is pretty bad, but the way in how it's told can make for quite an entertaining narrative. The pacing and energy Forces has imo kinda resembles Sonic Adventure 2, but with more action in its cutscenes(Sonic vs Infinite's gang, Shadow beating Infinite, Silver vs Infinite).
Even between the bossfight, such as when Sonic was fighting Infinite near the end, we get a cutscene in the middle of it, and the Avatar joins us, increasing the scale of the battle. Even after Infinite is beaten, we fight against Eggman in three stages. And when we beat Eggman as the Avatar, we get a pretty menacing cutscene when Death Egg Robot bursts open from Eggman's previous robot's chest, then the world shifts, and we go into the final bossfight.
This type of storytelling also carried in Frontiers Final Horizon, in the final battle. People say Frontiers is what really kicked very very action/high spectacle sequence in sonic games, but I feel Forces kickstarted it.
In short, nearly every cutscene in Forces has some sorta action to driving it.

Congrats! We need next mainline game to reach 10Mil copies as a goal!

Can we talk about Gojo's speed scaling? Gojo is able to talk in the prison realm, which doesn't have any time as stated. By that metric, Gojo at least has immeasurable speed, and deserves to be up there with characters like Flash, Sonic, Goku and---
That's HOW I would've scaled Gojo is I WAS A SONIC FAN/DRAGON BALL FAN. Especially Sonic fans in particular, because they don't take narrative into account at all(it's funny how people crap on JJK fanbase scaling, when the fanbase is 100x more cynical and wary about scaling their own characters)

How it feels getting flamed online for liking Sonic Frontiers but then you remember Sonic twitter is a vocal minority and the game has been widely beloved by general audiences:
Anyone that objectively deems Sonic adventure 2 as bad or deserved to be hated is not a Sonic fan. Plain and simple. Every aspect of the game is legit sonic 101 when it comes to making a good sonic game.
Actual interaction with the level design at all times, even in other gameplay styles? Check
Good momentum physics, even in other gameplay styles? Check
Reasonable difficulty to make maintenance of high speed hard? Check
In fact I’d say sa2 is better than most genesis sonic games, because stuff like sonic 2 and mania to an extent rely way too heavy on speedy slopes level design. Meanwhile sonic 1 is too blocky. Sonic 3&k is perfection though.

It's lowkey kinda sad, because giving property anime adaptations is the move for many franchises these days. Devil May Cry got an anime. Cyberpunk got two anime seasons. Castlevania also got an anime. Some webtoons are also getting anime adaptations. Some of what I listed are not even Japanese IP either.
It's not really about popularity either. But even nowadays, we barely see any western styled cartoon adaptations of popular series. Anime has become mainstream that many entertainment franchises are making anime or anime inspired adaptations to promote their IP.
Yet for some reason @SEGA wants to keep putting out western preschool cartoons. Make it make sense.

100% agree. I don't know why Sega sticks to Corocoro Kodomo-audience for Sonic comics. In fact, sega's comics across the board are way too geared for children. Idw similarly is for like what...an 8-12 year old group?
Shonen demographic(12-18) is the sweet spot for Sonic. It also lines up more with how Sonic games are given age ratings around the world(which is usually E10/Pegi 12/12+ ratings).
Sonic X feels like the last Sonic media that aimed for that age range.

I've watched the video. This is a decent critique, but a good chunk of it seems to stem from bad translations. The fan translations are better than the official IDW, that said reading it through the official IDW is good because you're supporting the creator. But I think you should've read the fan translation before making this video.
That said, 're-learning' a character arc isn't actually a problem in storytelling. I'm sure you'd hate Chainsaw Man, since Denji goes through similar developments many times over, but that's what it means to be a human, relatable character.
Another thing is that unlike chapter 1, this situation is actually a lot more bleak this time around. All of his friends got turned, and all hope was literally lost. There's quite still the difference between the scenario in chapter 1, and the one in chapter 2.
Lowkey true. I think the 2010s damaged the fanbase to the point we don't really care about plot anymore, but moreso character and themes.
There has been a disconnect in how we view sonic stories nowadays, because we just wanna analyse character and themes above the technical craft of a plot. I myself also became a trap to this admittedly, and have started to detract myself away from this thinking.
That's why i do believe Frontiers is one the best stories in the franchise, despite not having 10/10 portrayals of the characters. The plot is genuinely pretty well done, especially when you get every interaction in the game. The plot and tone can also justify the characters acting the way they do anyway.
I made a Sonic X post a few days back, and I believe Sonic X is a top tier Sonic narrative, because it encapsulates a great characters, themes from the 2000s, but also great plot structure(which is what some 2000s sonic games lacked).

Replying to @SonicTheory96
people care about characterization and themes more then the plot its a big problem with sonic fans in general
Stuff like this is why Sonic glazers might be worse than Goku glazers.

Okay but like he does tho? A lot? He’s logically above Solaris in base now he’s Moved in white space doesn’t really matter how you’re trying to debunk that unless you have evidence it’s still immeasurable and he’s flown to the end of time

People clowning on this guy, but let me ask you this.
What is BASE Sonics fastest CALCULABLE speed feat? The next thing down after his so called "immeasurable" feats (all of which are very abstract btw).
Because so far all I'm seeing is light speed. Not much beyond that.
Growing up is accepting that Sonic isn't consistently this immeasurable, faster than light character.
Sonic since his inception has always been closer to DASH from the Incredibles, than THE FLASH.
While I think the IDW comics have problems, it's annoying when powerscalers insist for Sonic to use his immeasurable and base 'universal+' scaling to get out of any situation.
People gotta realise, most of Sonic's MFTL/IMMEASURABLE speed feats only started coming once Pontac and Graff in the 2010s came into the franchise. White space was created, and it's nothing more than a poorly explained cosmological space in the franchise. Then came in forces, which allowed Sonic and the avatar to break out of infinite's dimension 'with the power of friendship'.
They're bad writers. And is why USUALLY most of the time, Sonic and his cast are treated in a more grounded sense when it comes to narrative.
In the 2000s, it was VERY hard to even consistently scale base Sonic to light speed+, because Shiro Maekawa, Kiyoko Yoshimura, Akinori, and Iizuka always saw him as a more grounded speedster that fits the adventurous spirit well. Whenever he did something 'dimensional/time breaking' in this era, he always needed a condition to do so; via mystical items like the chaos emeralds, time working differently in the space ect.
How can Sonic be an adventurous series if he can scale the planet or even universe in a picosecond?
Another thing we should realise is that the Sonic series is MUCH more grounded than we think. Cartoon logic doesn't really exist in Sonic. There's a reason why he series has ALOT of SCI-FI elements. In cutscenes we're also seen real physics work accordingly in Sonic.
Heck I'd even say Sonic is more grounded than stuff like Dragon Ball, because magic and otherworld realms(heaven/hell) in dragon ball can casually exist, but with Sonic it's not really the case; most powers are via genetic engineering, robotics, or genetic gifts.
Ask yourself this real quick. If Classic Sonic is also an immeasurable character judging off generations, why did Sonic need chaos control to time travel in 06?
Why did Sonic panic when prison island was going to blow up in a few minutes in SA2?
Why couldn't he seamlessly jog around the broken planet in unleashed to restore the emeralds?

I've realised something after just a day of this post. There's no point of me trying to respond to alot of people and debunk their points.
The Metal Virus Arc literally exists. An entire 2-3 year saga in real time and is basically one giant Anti-feat to the character's 'immeasurable speed'. This narrative didn't account for his 'immeasurable speed' scaling in the slightest.
Sonic runs from city to city, town to town, stressed the hell out, unable to save everyone, because he knows he can't be everywhere at once. Nuff said.

Those that are saying Sonic is 'tired' as an excuse aren't valid points. Sonic really only started to get exhausted around a few weeks into the arc(in his own time). Even at the beginning, he obviously wasn't blitzing from place to place instantly.
At least just say he's constrained by the narrative, rather than make up such bad excuse.
Just like Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Adventure 1&2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, Sonic and the black knight, Sonic and the secret rings, even a good chunk of Forces, Sonic is constrained by the narrative....like he is here.
If your 'peak speed' is consistently constrained by the narrative, then that speed shouldn't be taken into account for the character's average showings.
Said 'peak speed' of Sonic is not even elaborated on either. Generations barely explains how it even works. Forces plot doesn't even make sense. It's just like how people take that feat of Zeno erasing Future Trunks timeline, and Goku is floating/talking in that empty void, so he supposedly has immeasurable speed in that instance.
