$107,033 per student seems like a fully funded classroom.
The result: 7% math proficiency.
Funding isn't everything.
Here is how the school spends that money, and why it isn't working. 👇

How do you pass 92% of your students when 67% are chronically absent?
PS: The school spends over $100,000 per student.
What is going on?
Replying to @noahharlan
But what are students getting for all that spending? How are they performing? Unfortunately, not well... Just 26% of students are proficient in ELA, 7% in math, and 67% are chronically absent. They also "pass" 92% of their students, so basically everyone passes...
How do parents manage the weekdays that schools take off during the school year?
What are your tips and tricks?
Watching my niece get married reminds me what life is all about.
A new family is born and a new couple working together to do God’s will.
This is the way.
Traditional schools serve a very specific kind of student.
If they don't fit that mold...they end up like this.
I used to walk home from school as a kindergartener, often by myself.
What happened?
Software built on a solid curriculum with AI analyzing every student response is the way to go.
It allows kids to go at their own pace, but also learn more in less time.
This!
School needs to change. Knowing how to read, write, and do math are important skills, but they should be taught in the context of a problem kids care about.
Elon Musk explains why school feels so boring
School often gets learning backwards.
Elon: "you want to teach to the problem instead of teaching the tools"
Start with something real.
Elon: "here's a car engine, we're going to try to understand how this car engine works. We're going to take it apart."
To take it apart, you need tools.
Elon: "along the way, you learn about wrenches and screwdrivers and all the tools that are needed"
But that's not how school usually works.
Elon: "we're going to teach you a course on screwdrivers and a course on wrenches. And you're like, why do I have a course on wrenches?"
It's like learning to cook.
A year of knife drills is torture.
"Let's make tacos tonight" and you learn the knife in a day.
Elon: "That would be like, say, a course on calculus without explaining what calculus is useful. And then you sort of forget it."
Give people the "why" first. The "how" sticks.
What people are getting wrong in Sold a Story season 2.
Direct Instruction is NOT scripted curriculum.
Scripted curriculum can be direct instruction, but they are not the same thing.
With that said, I am withholding opinions about the season until I finish it.
I have a new favorite AI tool. @bot is agents for dummies...and that is what I needed.
