Conferences i.e. @DDWMeeting can feel overwhelming — even for the best of us. #GIFellows applying for advanced, IBD, or jobs, & #IMResidents getting ready for fellowship season - it’s a lot! 🤯 To follow up on @GI_Guy “Your network is your net worth” comment, a few tips I’ve picked up from hearing experts in the field & learned the hard way myself ⬇️. ⚠️ Finding a “mentor” @DDWMeeting ⭐️ Mentorship is a real commitment & akin to a relationship & takes time to build. ⭐️ Fight the urge to “propose on the spot” 😉 ⭐️ Instead, ask if you can follow up after the conference & let the relationship grow naturally. Countdown to #DDW2025

Pope Francis was the rare leader who made us want to be better people. In his humility and his gestures at once simple and profound – embracing the sick, ministering to the homeless, washing the feet of young prisoners – he shook us out of our complacency and reminded us that we are all bound by moral obligations to God and one another. Today, Michelle and I mourn with everyone around the world – Catholic and non-Catholic alike – who drew strength and inspiration from the Pope’s example. May we continue to heed his call to “never remain on the sidelines of this march of living hope.”

Sharing his words for the last time. Rest in Peace, Papa Francesco.
I would like us to renew our hope that #peace is possible! From the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of the Resurrection, where this year #Easter is being celebrated by Catholics and Orthodox on the same day, may the light of peace radiate throughout the Holy Land and the entire world.

“What is a weekend?” and other such zingers. Rest in Peace, Dame Maggie Smith. Thank you for Lady Crawley, Mother Superior, Minerva McGonnagall, Betsy Trotwood and so many others. The screen will be dimmer without your acerbic wit.
A true British icon. Thank you for everything, Dame Maggie Smith.

Success is a funny thing. During the week, it’s defined by stopping a big bleed, saving a life, publishing , promotion. On the weekend, it’s getting to the front of the bouncy house line and hoping you get the last soft serve cone.

Always fun to see a book chapter with one of my favorite ex fellows, now colleague and @ASGEendoscopy LEAD classmate @lutherlikelexMD published and arrive in hardcover in the mail! Also, anyone else sniff a new book before reading it, for the new book smell?

Dr. Fauci has dedicated his life to public service. To improving the health & well being of millions & millions. He’s a great American, a great patriot, a great doctor, and a great public servant. Thank you Dr. Fauci.

My X feed is a mix of Met Gala videos, people who consider having “too many tote bags” a catastrophe and pictures of parents carrying the dismembered body parts of their dead children. The dichotomy of these 2worlds that exist on the same planet is heartbreaking.
